Re: Official MLB 2k11 - Impressions Thread
I'll have to try it because I'm honestly not too sure what this might look like. Never tried it. Thanks."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Re: Official MLB 2k11 - Impressions Thread
I've been playing this game for about a month now and I'm happy that I've purchased the game. Overall it's a very fun game that (at least for now) has a lot of replay value. I've recently joined an online league with a fantasy draft and despite that the draft was pretty basic (could couldn't even see player's stats while drafting) and the league itself is pretty much the bare-bones of a league it's still a lot of fun.
Being constructive there are a few key things that make this game almost unplayable sometimes (but for the most part I just get over them):
-Base running is crazy, especially in online games, speed is way unbalanced. The runners are extremely fast and what should be a typical single and advanced runner can sometimes turn into two extra bases, runs and even occasional in the park home runs if you field poorly (which I do sometimes).
-Linked to the base running, outfielders arms are weak and even worse the throw animation takes a second or even a bit more to get the ball into the infield. This in part leads to the problem with the very quick base runners who are almost impossible to throw out unless you have a great fielder.
-Personally, I've had problems with the automatic check swing when a pitch is pretty clearly a strike. This usually happens when I'm using the power swing and it doesn't make any sense.
-Various glitches such as the common HR/Wall Climb Out, in addition there's been a few strange one's I've experienced when playing such as playing getting injuried and/or striking out and being stuck on the field.
-The fatigue in the game is good for the most part however if you're using a franchise or online franchise the fact that the stamina goes back to 100% after user played game is extremely poor. Also, there is no fielder/batter fatigue which makes teams with deep line-ups almost worthless.
To end my impression, this is a very fun game, the pitching and batting are really great and you can definitely see a lot of realism and have a great feeling when you work a count and get a hit or strike out a key batter. Unfortunately, I feel like this game is a few months of development from being a great game and hopefully (no news yet?) there will be a few patches to fix some of the essential problems.Caution: Whiskey, weed and Warren Zevon before writing.Comment

Re: Official MLB 2k11 - Impressions Thread
I rented 2K10 for the 360 and liked it. After the 7 days I took it back and never thought about it again. I rented 2k11 this year and after returning it actually jones'd to play the game again. I was a SNK Baseball Stars addict as a kid, loved RBI Baseball and liked 2K3. Since then I haven't been this passionate about a baseball game. The presentation is incredible. Playing on MLB Today yesterday and it knowing the Indians were going for their 8th straight win and the commentators reciting actual stats from yesterdays MLB games was incredible. I ahte flaws as much as the next guy but the positives of this game absolutely crush my little problems with it.
That being said can anyone help me with stealing bases? I've read different things about hitting the RT to speed up the runner to only certain pitchers even being abole to steal on. I've had 3 step leads with burners and still get thrown out. Also is there a special sliding trick?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.Comment

Re: Official MLB 2k11 - Impressions Thread
I did a formal review on the game for offline only. Still having a lot of fun with it but the franchise bugs and cpu management AI hurt this game. The only real gameplay issue that bugs me is the lack of ground outs by the cpu. The cpu offense is too feast or famine (strikeout or get a hit) imo.

I just picked this up today on my lunch break after playing The Show since it was released. I downloaded the demo last night and it just felt like "coming home". Can't wait to play some games tonight w/ MLB Today (I sorely missed this playing MLB 11).2006 - present, NY Mets Season Ticket HolderComment

No question I would tell you to buy 2K11. It's a much better game. When I see reviews that say it's not that different from 2K10 I just laugh. 2K11 is not a perfect game but the hit variety in 2K10 was pretty weak. It's so much better in 2K10. You had too much pitch control in 2K10 as well once you got used to the gesture pitching. I would walk about 1 batter every 10 games. With 2K11 I issue over two walks per game (MLB average is over three but I give in a little too much). The biggest reason is the pitch control slider and the variable strike zone - two things that never existed in 2K10.
As for fielding, 2K11 has errors. While not tuned well on default levels they still exist. No errors exist in 2K10 so you could play any player at any position without penalty. Plus you have three different camera options in 2K11 for fielding with height and zoom adjustments. 2K10 had one close up camera view for fielding which some, myself included, didn't like all that much.
2K10 was a fun game but it had too many errors or omissions to stand the test of time. 2K11 improved a lot in all major areas except for cpu management AI. That still needs work. As my review outlined, 2K11 has issues but it's a MUCH better game than 2K10 whose flaws really hurt the game over the long haul. If you only want to play a handful of games here and there you might enjoy 2K10. But I would really encourage you to buy 2K11 instead. It's a lot better.Comment

Looks like I might have to throw in the towel on this one.
2K11 it is. Thanks RudyComment

Hadn't played this game in about a week (had been playing TW 12 recently), but man, this game is amazing. It's just a beautiful and fun game to play. Sometimes absense makes the heart grow fonderComment

Re: Official MLB 2k11 - Impressions Thread
I know I've read about goofy sub patters from the cpu but I haven't really seen too many bad things while playing in the AL with my Tigers. But today I saw the cpu sub in Mariano Rivera in RF as a defensive replacement in the 8th inning. He actually batted too and had no inside edge report lol.Comment

A lot of times you won't catch it until they replace that person in the middle of an inning. Sometimes they bring them in just for one play and then make the sub. Very strange.
The easiest way to catch this is to pause the game and check the box score. Under the CPU lineup screen, see if there are any indented players under the starter. Usually you will see 2, the first being the pitcher that played an out or two, then his permanent defensive replacement.
I've never had one come to the plate, though. And it never really seems to effect the outcome of the game, so I can look past it pretty easily.Last edited by cardswin2006; 04-25-2011, 05:16 PM.Comment
