Re: Official MLB 2k11 - Impressions Thread

I just picked up this game after a recent price drop. I've played the Show this year and in the past and it's great but it just got a little stale for me. 2k11 is MUCH better than last year's 2k product and I'm really having some fun here with the change from the Show. The commentary is excellent and the stats are really nice. Not to mention the 2k11 batting camera is the only one where I've really felt comfortable. Anyways, glad I picked it up (for $39) and looking forward to getting deeper into it. Thanks for the impressions guys. You guys gave some great feedback post-patch that made me decide to give this one a try.

edit: okay, so some annoying things are coming up now, but it's still a fun change of pace.

Re: Official MLB 2k11 - Impressions Thread

Ok, so I will say that I do enjoy this game, outside of its problems. The gameplay is the best its ever been in terms of scoring, hits etc and with decent sliders you could make it even more great.

However, I cant help shake the feeling that theres just laziness overall stemming out of this product. They went backwards in some areas that they really really need to address in 2k12:

      - The AI manager logic is still pretty terrible. Defensive replacements rarely make any sense (ex: Shumaker in for Holliday? Holliday's bat is amazing, you cant take it out of the lineup) and their managing of bullpen's is still average at best.

      - Franchise mode AI needs to be better overall too. Make the CPU optimize their lineups better. Id also like to see the CPU not constantly put in setup guys with only 60 stamina in their rotations.

      - The player faces are awful. Compared to NBA 2k its almost laughable. (I understand there are way more baseball players than basketball players, but still, this has to be improved).

      - Glitches. Glitches. Glitches. Somehow, this years version of MLB 2k is glitchier than 2k10. Fix this.

      - Gameplay wise I still feel that the CPU is still wayyyy to swing happy. I often have very very low pitch counts in the late innings because the CPU almost never takes more than 1 strike an at bat. Half the time they're swinging at the first good pitch they see. Its kind of annoying.

      - Overall though I think this game is good. Oh yeah, and someone else mentioned this - but why the hell did they take away the away pitcher stat lines at the beginning of the game? It makes no sense at all. They had it in 2k10, why would they take it away? Really bad presentation choice there imo.

Yup, they have the minor league licence and the minors system goes all the way down to A ball.

Just switched from the Show to this again this year...very nice change! It's fun and that's the main thing. MLB Today keeps things fresh. I really like the pitching and batting mechanic. It plays well on the field, great presentation and commentary.

                I give it a 5/10
a lot of it is just copy paste from mlb 2k10
only different thing is the stats on players a some rosters
commentary gets old and boring fast

and it seems whatever i put it on..pro all star ect
                its all easy
the my player mode is EXACTLY THE SAME
no improvements in it..only thing thats changed is you can't change your team right away

Re: Official MLB 2k11 - Impressions Thread

i bought the game a week ago when best buy had it for 29.99, but this is the first few days i had time to play it. i downloaded mkharsh rosters and sliders and started my franchise with the Reds. i took a few games of the spring training to get my bearings and just finished my first season game tonight.

so far, i really like what i am seeing. i won the first game 5-1. i could not hit the marcum for the first 5 innings, but after and error with two outs i scored 3 runs. i walked 5 batters with cueto, but was able to get double plays and such to keep the brewers off the board.

i love the hitting camera. i like the fact balls are easily discernible. i was able to draw walks a lot easier than the show. (i really like the show, btw.) in fact, i changed the batting camera on the show to match the 2k angle better. it helped with both games. i liked the hit variety. i did not like the swing stick. i always loved MVP's hitting system and classic hitting (recommended by mkharsh anyways) feels better to me.

i love the pitching. i never felt better about giving up 5 walks.

fielding took a little getting used to. i had several errors in spring training until i get better.

graphically, the fields look great but the players are just plain ugly compared to the show. i like the animations sometimes, but it is not even close. some of the fake faces look like burn victims and are going to give me nightmares.

i love and i mean love the super sim. i can play parts of every game this way. that will make this season much more fun.

so far, i really like this game. it felt like a chess match. i was able to draw walks and such. i am still going with auto baserunning until i get better used to the controls. i cost myself several preseason base runners so i will take my time figuring out those things.

                    Hi all,

Can anyone offer any feedback as to how this game plays online? (360)

I have The Show, but a buddy of mine has a 360 and we're looking for a good online baseball game.

Just picked this up. Needed a change of pace. I am having fun with it. I love the color in the game, the crowd and stadiums really pop. The crowd noise is very nice, the commentary is fantastic. Player models need some work, some look real good, like Carl Crawford and some need help. I like the cameras for pitching and batting. They need to include the very nice broadcast cam they use for highlites for gameplay. The swing cannot be motion captured, if it is, fire that dept. Fix the swing and batting is alot of fun. Pitching is very challenging, very rewarding when you get a k. A few improvements and adjustments and this could really be a lot of fun!

This is off topic, but I need some help. During my game I have the fielding camera set to the way I want it. It's 2k9 zoomed out so it has more of a broadcast cam feel. When the computer is batting it's works, but when I bat it switches to that awful low camera from behind home plate. Any info on what I need to do to make it work while I'm batting? Thanks for any help

I've been playing both MLB games since I got my PS3. Each year, I always find myself being more drawn towards the 2K series after a few months of gameplay between the 2.

A lot of people will probably say I'm crazy for choosing 2K over the Show, but for me, I find the 2K series a bit more accessible.

I'm not a hardcore gamer, and don't get a whole lot of time to play, so for me, having controls that are easy to pick up is huge. The pitching and batting mechanics in the 2K series are probably the best that I have ever seen in a baseball video game.

Sure they might not be the first series to use the analog controls, but to me, they definitely redefined how they should be used. It adds the depth to the controls that make them challenging to learn, and rewarding once you get them down pat.

Sure, the player models aren't perfect, when compared to the Show, but I've always found that any 2K series has had some pretty decent likeness, especially the NHL 2K series.

Overall, I would say that MLB 2K11 is probably the best baseball game that I have played. The overall feel of the game and the value behind it, make it the game for me for the next little while.
