Re: MLB 2K11 Roster Adjustments, Ratings and Accessories - MLB 2K Insider Will Check

Rafael Soriano has in the game FB at 95, Cutter at 96, and a Slider at 86.

According to PitchFx, Soriano averages 93 on the fastball, 83 on the slider, and 91 on the cutter. Thus, 96 for his cutter is wrong.

Chad Tracy is shown as 25 years old but in real life was born May 22, 1980, which makes him 30 years old.

The speeds are maxs, not averages.

I know, so what are you questioning? When Soriano is given a 96 mph cutter in the game but averages 91 in real life, how would you expect him to average 96? He is basically a one-inning pitcher.

Because you're complaining about pitch speeds, quoting averages on fangraphs, but quoting the maxes in the roster. Soriano is 94 for his cutter on the last Living Roster, not 96 BTW.

I always quote averages as stated in PitchFx, and also what I see in the roster--and I do not use living rosters. Still, 94 does not make sense for a RP who throws one inning. And, 96 sure doesn't make any sense.

Well that's brilliant. Why are you posting in a thread about changes to the Living Roster if you don't use it? Soriano's topped 95 with his cutter this year, so I don't know why you don't think that makes any sense...

Are you having fun? Seems like it to me. This thread has a title that includes roster ratings and no limitation on what kind of roster. There are roster updates periodically that are not living rosters, just roster updates. I don't use roster updates in a franchise that was started--and I don't know who does.

In your graph for Soriano, do you see him throwing his cutter 86-87 mph? You are making me laugh so hard...catching my breath...

So how does Soriano average 91 mph on his cutter pitching one inning? Tell me how he does it with speeds.

Re: MLB 2K11 Roster Adjustments, Ratings and Accessories - MLB 2K Insider Will Check

Going by latest roster update, Kevin Youklis has better ratings against Lefties than....Albert Pujols! Youklis has 97-95 while Pujols has 92-95.

Okay, let's look at their 3-year splits (2008-2010) with both based on over 300 at bats:

Youklis batted .328 with .620 slugging.

Pujols batted .351 with .700 slugging.

So, how is Youklis better against lefties??

Clayton Kershaw and Tim Lincecum have better stats for giving up HRs than Ubaldo Jimenez, but is it justified?

Let's look at three pitchers, Kershaw, Lincecum, and Jimenez:

Kershaw in 204 innings last year gave up 13 homers (rated 89-96)

Lincecum in 212 innings gave up 18 homers (rated 93-89)

Ubaldo Jimenez in 221 innings gave up 10 homers (rated 91-89)

So, how does Lincecum and Kershaw have better ratings for giving up homers??

Three-year averages do not work for Kershaw because of innings pitched.

HUH? All roster updates are updates to the living roster only. You CANT use roster updates in a franchise that has already started. Basically, any roster changes they make, you will not see in your current franchise...

Sure, but do you not see him throwing 96 MPH as well? That's what the rating is. The Max speed, not the average. Not the Min. He even averaged 94 mph (it's the dot if you have issues reading) in one game this year with it.

Yeah, but they bring their numbers in HR allowed much closer for the other two if you do use them. Also, remember it's a modifier for their pitches, not a straight rating (go into player editor and see the effect on overall when you mess with control and movement). So high rated Sinker + those ratings gives up less HRs than 4-seam + those ratings. I agree, 2K needs to lower Youks as well. I think they reacted to a Cards fan demanding for Pujols to be dropped.

Look, the point, my point, is in the game you are not going to see Soriano throw his cutter and average 91 mph. Also, I don't care what a pitcher may throw for a peak because it doesn't tell me how often or what location. Someone could throw X pitch once the entire season at Z mph and it means nothing to me. What I look for is the average and the rest should be adjusted, as it is in this video game.

I don't have living roster updates turned on so I call it roster update, downloaded from 2K Share. I know updated rosters can't be used in franchise.

So then everybody bitches because their pitchers never hit the max speed. CHAPMAN'S NOT THROWING 105!!!! See my point? The game is designed so the max speed is set in the roster, not the average. What they should do is add a range and/or average speed so that players can still hit that max speed and generally throw close to their average, but that's not how it's set up right now.

Lower Soriano's cutter speed to say 92-93 and he would probably average 91 mph. Bottom line for me is Soriano's cutter is not faster than his fastball.
