Re: Anything from 2K on a patch?
You think that stuff is a joke? The PC version has a crippling bug to where if you're someone who uses HDMI audio (like me,) you can never get through a full game without the game either having the audio completely cut out, or in random cases, a total system crash. A lot of times I can't even get through a full inning w/o it happening. Very disappointing, and I really have no idea how a bug like this can even get through considering I've purchased all the other MLB/NBA 2K games on PC and NONE of them had this bug.Comment

Re: Anything from 2K on a patch?
I really wonder what the testing process is exactly considering how many bugs and glitches get through undetected, or possibly they are detected yet 2K doesn't care.
Before we had patches there was not nearly a many bugs and glitches in games, at least not ones of the impact you see today.Green Bay Packers | Milwaukee Bucks | Milwaukee BrewersComment

It's a fundamental premise of a free-enterprise economy that more competition results in better quality products and lower prices (i.e. benefits to consumers), whereas monopolies generally lead to higher prices and/or lower-quality products (i.e. benefits for companies). We have definitely seen all of this play out with the exclusive video game deals for MLB and the NFL.Comment

2) The internet wasn't a factor back then; now we have message boards where come to whine and complain about EVERYTHING even slightly wrong in a game.
While I enjoy the information I can get from boards, there is also a hell of a lot of negativity.Comment

Whatever testing process 2K used they should be ashamed for releasing the game in such a state. Honestly. C'mon, there isn't a good excuse unless they come out and say they didn't really bother to test the game other than to see that it booted properly on each platform. Because the more I play this game, the more I believe that was the extent of the QA/QC process.Comment

1) Games are more complicated today, hence the possibility of more issues, and

I don't think it should really be that hard. Unlike a PC which can have umpteen different hardware/OS setups floating around, the current consoles are identical. What I mean is a XBOX360 is a XBOX360, a PS3 is a PS3, etc. The processing power and capabilities of these consoles are the same today as on the day they launched. Logically, you should be getting better at something the more times you do it, right? Unless, of course, your just going through the motions like brushing your teeth.
I think the internet has made some developers a bit lazy or unwilling to delay a product in order to sort out things properly because they can just throw a patch out there. Of course, in the meantime, you're pissing off the consumer who just shelled out $60 for your unfinished product.Comment

Re: Anything from 2K on a patch?
From Ronnie 2K's Twitter feed, just yesterday:
"We're continuing to collect feedback for the #MLB2K11 patch"
I'm not holding my breath; I'm guessing the earliest we see a patch to maybe fix the broken stuff in this game is early May. What a joke.
Really sad when you consider the potential this game has.
Amazingly, the two games 2K appear to have gotten right this year, NBA2K11 and Top Spin 4, are not of particular interest to me. Meanwhile, the NHL2K and MLB2K series, the games I most interested in, appear in danger of going the way of the dodo.Comment

Re: Anything from 2K on a patch?
Well, if they're only going to do one more patch (which they probably are), then I'm fine with them taking their time to make sure they take care of as many bugs as possible. It's much better than the alternative: rush a patch out to fix the obvious bugs and miss a lot of the smaller things.
In the meantime, I'm having a lot of fun with the game.Comment

You need to remember that consumers rack up far more hours playing the game on the first day of launch than the dev team has spent testing the game. It's just a matter of the sheer numbers involved. While we like to think that the developers would and should catch everything, the fact is that there are going to be numerous issues that pop up that they never even saw.
I'm not trying to excuse some of the bugs/sloppiness found in many of today's games (some bugs seem WAY too obvious to miss). I'm just providing context.Comment
