I've gone into practice mode to try this, and you literally have to decide to check your swing before the pitcher even throws the pitch, in order to be able to push the button twice in a row that quickly. It's completely useless.

As for aiming L, R etc., with the L stick, I'm still testing that out myself. I don't much difference in my hits between my aiming or not aiming. Not sure what to make of that yet.

I don't think anyone knows what the LS really does or if it does what it's supposed to. I've tried every combination of using LS, not using it and can't tell a diff. I'm not saying it does nothing but if I want to pull the ball I use my timing and don't even worry about the LS.

      Re: having trouble getting hits

I've played about 30 games with custom sliders in the All-Star range and have gotten very realistic numbers. .260 avg, 1 hr per game, 2 doubles, etc.

This is for total control hitting.

Always hold L stick in the direction you're looking before the pitch is thrown. For power hitters I normally hold up or pull, contact guys I aim where I think the pitcher has been going consistently. I don't try to aim L while the pitch is on its way, unless I see it good. Most of the time I'm looking to pull early in the count, and then adjust from there. Also, you need to have a plan with each hitter. First guy up in the inning should be patient and try to get on, runners on base you should look for the holes, etc.

(I haven't confirmed this one, but I think it makes a difference) Make sure your power swing motion is going directly up. If it's going a little left or right, you will get more foul balls. I actually had to alter my hand position because I kept pushing the stick off-center, and I swear this resulted in mostly foul balls. So if you are hitting mostly fouls with power swing, check your up motion and make sure it's straight.

Use defensive swing with 2 strikes. Seriously, this will keep you in so many more at bats and help get the pitchers pitch count up. Occasionly, you will get a bloop hit with this, but the main reason to use this, is to work the count for a walk or a mistake that you can drive.

      Anyway, that's my .02 cents.

The left stick should be pushed in the direction of the pitch. It doesnt really influence hit type, although it can. Big curve low in the zone? hold down and you'll chip it over the infield for a hit. Up in the zone? try holding up for a HR or a double/triple in the gap etc. Im a classic batting control vet and this is how its always worked for me.
