I've read every post in this thread and I still can't figure out the exact point the OP is trying to make. I don't know if I'm just lost here.

      Youre not lost.
Im probably off topic myself, im just ranting about how I feel about the baseball video game competition, or lack thereof.

Couldn't have put it any better. The most annoying thing to me about MLB2K11 is that there is NO WAY they could have done a decent amount of QA/QC on this game and not be aware of most of the glitches especially in regards to player animations. Why not fix this before release?

I have had a lot more fun playing 2K11 this year than I have playing The Show the past couple of years. If 2K would make a concerted effort to actually release a polished, completed product I think you would see a lot of people willing to move back from The Show. That game is flat out stale.

You think maybe they ran out of time? It's the problem with yearly releases. And they can't just put it off, because that just buries them deeper. Most sports gamers have become accustomed to how this works.

Yuo are not wrong. The game has some really annoying bugs that have to be patched. But going the next step in accusing them of not trying is just ignoring what we all knew was the case coming into this year of baseball releases.

2K10 sold abysmally despite it being a drastic improvement. 2K11 will almost certainly sell terribly, too, regardless of the bugs. 2K is paying much larger upfront fee for a really poor exclusivity deal. They have less coming in, and more going out. That leads to smaller budgets and more corners cut.

What I see in 2K11 is a development team that really worked their butts off to make significant improvements in an environment where they had less resources than they needed. They made mistakes out of aggressively trying to make a better game, not passively not caring how it came out.

Re: Too much of a focus on realism?

You guys aren't lost. This thread is kind of off topic. I'm just trying to figure out why the gaming industry is where it's at. I'm not blaming the developers either. I think they are in the same boat because everyone wants to get paid. It's a mindset. MLB players want their two cents everyone.

Am I wrong though that a lot of people feel at the mercy of the developer sometimes? I think sometimes the developers come here and try to educate people on how these games are made. I think they speak the truth from their perspective. It's not easy. It's expensive etc. They are dealing with deadlines and trying to meet a demand. There aren't enough talented people out there who know how to make them or are willing too or can for that matter.

My point is just that where is my motivation as a consumer to do that? I think there a lot of great ideas out there, but people don't even think that way anymore. It's just fix this or fix that. When people have forgotten how to think for themselves and do something about it.

I think it is impossible for joe celtic fan to make a game. It's way too expensive to do that. I can't compete with 2k and go out and make a game if i want to try something else or don't like it. It's like where is my motivation.

I think greed gone wrong. Yeah it's the real world and these are just games and I don't think it's that big a deal. I just think games cost way too much to make and developers, consumers, and everyone aren't willing to try different things. I think deep down they are. The fact people play this game tells me they are.

Then people bitch and moan about how this game sucks or whatever. When it's like do something about it.

I was reading an article the other day about how 2k was created. It was a bunch of people who just got sick of Madden and wanted to try something different. I was reading an article about how Blizzard entertainment came to be. It was a bunch of guys who just wanted to make video games. They had no idea how. They just wanted to make video games and got loans and went out and hired people that could do different things and figured it out. They wanted to try something different. They were venture capitalists. I wish there was more of that.

I think we've reached a point where these games are getting stale a bit and peopel want to try different things. At least I do.

If anyone wants to make a video game and has a passion for it and ideas on how to do that and has any clue what I'm saying lol, let me know.

My issue is I think games cost way too much to make and I wish they'd lower the costs a bit and peopel would stop being so greedy. So people can try different things.

More "good" games equals more jobs, more people getting what they want and more people being happy. I don't want crappy games. I want more good games.

I'm just trying to deviate from the norm a bit and think outside the box and create discussion. I'm not saying I'm right either. There are a lot of smart people out there and people smarter than me.

Your points are valid and I agree that they probably did run out of development time, but how much would it have hurt if they held off and released the game somewhere around opening day or just thereafter?

I realize patches are the norm for just about every game out there these days and I'm okay with that, but that doesn't excuse 2K from releasing a sloppy product from the get-go. I think a lot of the negativity directed towards MLB2K11 stems from the game's track over the last few years. In other words, a lot of people (especially reviewers) are already biased against the game and don't give it fair shot. I don't know; I could be wrong.

I have a PS3 so I'm lucky in the respect that I do have a choice about which game to get and, no, I haven't any interest in buying both. I chose MLB2K11 after comparing the demos even though The Show is the more polished of the two. To me the game has grown stale. I've seen posts at other forums suggesting that anyone with a PS3 that chooses 2K11 over The Show is insane. Guess that makes me nuts then.

I am really liking MLB2K11, but it definitely has the feel of an unfinished game. Like I said earlier, I know patches are the way of the world when it comes to videogames these days. I do not expect perfection. But, releasing sloppy product right off the bat (no pun intended) is doing more harm than good.
