Homeruns. What am I doing wrong?
Wow. I've had 2K11 since it's release (PS3) and I don't recall hitting one homerun yet. Is the powerswing required to touch em all or am I just trash? I also have The Show and probably score about 70% of my runs in that game via the longball. Any suggestions? I play on all star and am not interested in jacking around the sliders...Tags: None -

Re: Homeruns. What am I doing wrong?
I am using the standard analog hitting. I don't really use the powerswing (down then up) as it seems that it will cause popups more often than not. I have not tried classic hitting in this game. I really like the analog and don't have a problem getting hits or runs otherwise. Maybe I will give classic a try. Does it seem like you get a few TOO MANY hits with classic batting?Comment

Re: Homeruns. What am I doing wrong?
I've found it's specifically timing and getting the right pitch. For example don't swing at a pitch that's in the strike zone just because it is. Instead learn to take a strike or two and wait for that one pitch you can crush. I've had good results with that.« My Teams »

Re: Homeruns. What am I doing wrong?
Use power swing. I have no trouble at all hitting HRs with power swing. In fact the only time I use contact swing is with 2 strikes or if the hitter doesn't have much power. But even for guys who don't have much power I'll use power swing most of the time, as it means I'll have a better chance at driving the gaps for extra bases.
I'm using custom sliders, by the way, and I think I have my power set at the default 50. Either way, power swing should help immensely, as it's a big difference from contact swing. All ties severed...Comment

I have hit about 50 hrs in the 40 or so games I have played and only 2 were with a contact swings.
I was in the same boat as you when I first got the game, I could not hit any hrs.
It is all timing with the power swing stick, keep practicing you will start hitting them.
Again my first 15 games or so I couldnt hit hrs, now I hit about 2 or so a game.
I hit 5 in a game I played last night using bigfnjoes sliders. Votto hit 3 alone for me in that game.ND Season Ticket Holder since '72.Comment

Re: Homeruns. What am I doing wrong?
I will work on my power swing I guess. It just seems like everytime I make contact with a power swing the ball pops up or hacks foul behind the plate. I suppose hitting homeruns isn't supposed to be easy anyhow.Comment

Re: Homeruns. What am I doing wrong?
Try and wait a little longer if you can and wait for a better count or pitch really helps ( the pitch zoom really helps to see the ball better ).It's alot about timing if your using analog or the button, I like the analog because I have more control on my swing, IMO !!!Last edited by BSUFAN; 03-23-2011, 09:44 AM.When you come to a fork in the road, take it..... I popped up a hundred times to the catcher when I first started playing.
Now it happens about once a game.ND Season Ticket Holder since '72.Comment

Thanks for the input. I just wanted to make sure that homeruns weren't a problem this year! Oh, and good luck to your Reds this year, it looks like the NL Central will come down to your boys and the Brew Crew.Comment

Re: Homeruns. What am I doing wrong?
I only play MY PLAYER mode, and currently my player is about a 67 in Power, although hes on a HOT STREAK and i think that increases power...but anyway. What works for me is obviously timing, and using the Power Swing (swing stick controls), but what has not been mentioned so far is that for me: I hold the left stick up and to the left, but just barely... dont crank it all the way up or you will get pop-ups. I would say that i dont even hold it half way up maybe just a third... I mean I barely hold it up and a little bit left is what I am getting at (I am a Right Handed Hitter and pulling the ball increases my chance of HR's instead of hitting to dead center). Try that and I think you will find some success.Comment

Re: Homeruns. What am I doing wrong?
I'll echo some of the other replies. I've had my best luck after taking pitches and working the count to a hitter's count like 2-0 or 3-1. Then you can usually sit on a fastball and let it rip. I've had considerably less luck with even counts or pitcher's counts.Comment

This game really is great in terms of working the count, I'll keep you all posted on my development!Comment
