Re: We Have Contact, But Do We Have A Home Run?

The gap between contact and power swing is simply too large in this game. I use power swing a lot so I have to keep user power down or I hit too many. I just dropped it from 45 to 40 because I had hit 27 HRs in 15 games with the Tigers (13 of which were Cabrera). But as soon as I drop power down that far you will almost never see contact home runs. I've hit one contact HR in the game so far although I don't swing contact that often. I did hit a HR with Austin Jackson (41 power and 40 power slider) when I pulled it over the LF wall so I do like the fact little power guys can still hit HRs.

The other problem this gap creates is a feast or famine cpu. I find it's too often a strike out or a base hit for the cpu. There aren't enough ground outs for the cpu imo. You really have to boost the power slider for them to get them to hit HRs too. I'm striking out the cpu far too often but they still are hitting .297 against my pitchers. I've walking them at a rate of 2 per inning too so it's not like I'm just throwing meatballs.

Can't really answer that as I'm playing with AA r.o.sters because the MLB guys are simply too over-powered. Yes, there are groundballs in this game. But in real baseball, there's a much higher percentage of groundballs and groundouts, than fly balls and fly ball outs. In this game, the reverse is true -- it's mostly all screaming linedrives and fly balls. And as for nubbers, they're basically non-existent. CPU infielders never have to run in to pick up a slow-rolling ball. It's only been after I switched to AA r.osters and played with players in the 60-70 overall rating range, that I began to see how un.balanced the gameplay is in this regard.

I agree with you 100%. I was thinking of jacking power way up and using only the contact swing, but would I still get weak grounders or would everything be laced and still homers might be too rare. Its almost like you have to balance sliders to the power swing and then use contact swing only when you get behind in the count etc.

I too would like to be surprised by a HR every now and then, instead of having to try and hit them..

That's exactly why I switched to Classic. I liked the idea of using the analog hitting ever since 2K7, and I stuck with it till this year, but now I'm finding that button hitting just provides much better variety and a good balance of power, plus it's easier on my aging thumb.
