Sounds like all's working out well. With that pitching staff I'd got with a pitching and defense team build and settle for your 3-5 hitters having doubles power and everyone else being plus defenders.

Sim results are really good in this game. The stats play out exactly like they should. This has allowed me to play one and sim five, which lets you play multiple seasons, watch prospects grow, etc.

Lincecum must be a ton of fun to pitch with.

Oddly enough though, he's the only starter in my rotation who doesn't have a win yet.

As far as stealing bases goes... am I just doing something wrong? I only have 1 SB on the season, and that was when I had runners on 1st and 3rd, and I stole second, and with having a runner on 3rd, the CPU didn't even attempt to get my runner going to 2nd.

The slowest guy I attempt base stealing with is Emmanuel Burriss (SPD 84), and I've also attempted it with Darren Ford (SPD 95), but I get caught -every time-. I've taken a 2 step lead (or is it 4? Tap the trigger twice) before taking a 3rd step when queing up the steal, but still, I get caught everytime.

I don't want to take too big of a lead, because I don't want to get picked off. But I obviously need to take a big enough lead to steal. It's frustrating when any CPU runner that attempts to get 2nd, gets it, 100% of the time. Even when I have Buster Posey throwing down to 2nd in the green part of the bar.

Having a speed team in that ballpark is not only dangerous, it's almost a necessity. Guys aren't going to put up huge power numbers in Petco, so it makes more sense to have speedy outfielders that can steal bases. and have the range to cover the field. If you can get some power from either 3B, 1B, or C, you would be in business. That is, unless, you can find a guy that has speed and power, in which case it doesn't matter where they play.

Ya no kidding. I got Anthony Rizzo in AAA who I might bring up later this year but i'm not sure. When the trade deadline rolls around I might attempt to snag a 20-20 guy like Pence, Kinsler, or weeks.

I'm the diamondbacks. I wanted to add another bat to the team after seeing how we did in spring training (scored 1 or 0 runs in almost every game). So do you guys consider these trades realistic. First I traded joe saunders to the twins for jason kubel. It was on trade finder when I put joe saunders on there. Straight up trade. Then I needed to find a pitcher to replace Saunders so I traded a 3 star minor leauge pitcher and some other pitcher in the minors 71 overall for doug fister of the mariners. Fister was only a 73 overall cuz they had him at reliever.

Bartlett, Maybin, and Hudson have 86, 86, and 83 speed. On first base lead off 4 times then get yourself a good jump. Also keep in mind if the catcher is good like Molina who I never attempt to steal on, if the pitcher as a quick release, and if the pitcher threw a fastball high or like a curveball low and what your hitters acceleration is. All that comes into play.

If it's a pitcher with a slow release and he throws a curve into the dirt but has Molina at C, he can still gun you down. SO take all that into consideration.

I don't really look to see if a trade is realistic unless it's some All-Star/Elite player, a star in the making, somebody 85+ in rating or a younger player with 4* or 5* potential. So yes I think those are both fine.

I play as the Mets. Should I trade Mike Pelfrey for Ryan Kalish? I have Niese, Gee and Mejia in AAA who I could call up to be my 5th starter.

4 times? Wow, is that still close enough to not get picked off if the pitcher turns and tries to get me at 1st? And do I need to hit anything to get back, or will my runner auto return?

I lead off 4 times only with the speediest runners (82 or above, usually), that is unless a guy is on second, in which case I always lead the guy off first 4 steps (same thing if bases are loaded). For lower rated guys I will lead off once (for a pitcher), or up to three times with the mid level guys (75 SPD or thereabouts).

As for getting picked off, yes, it can happen, but not every time like last year. I'm not sure if you have to hit anything for the runner to go back. I always hit the right trigger or bumper, but I don't really think it does anything as sometimes they are already heading back to the base when I hit it. Other times I hit it and there is a delay.

It's a risk/reward, but the reward is much greater than the risk IMO.

I get picked off way too much, and I usually only steal with guys with 80 speed or above. I take pretty hefty leads and I release the left trigger as soon as I see the pitcher move, but I still get nailed 50% of the time or more, easy.

When I attempt a steal I usually get the steal 80% of the time. I have even stolen a base with ubaldo and grienke before. Ubaldo was an accident and grienke I knew the situation to try to steal the base. But like others have said. Led off about 4 steps and release the trigger right when the pitcher moves. Personally I think acceleration is more important then speed. But both are needed.

Okay then so I'm just not taking big enough leads.

I guess that's me not having played a baseball game in forever. Last game I played was like 2K5 on PS2, and if I took more than a two step lead, I'd get picked off everytime. And I've already gotten picked off once, so I've been afraid of taking big leads. I guess I'll try it out and see if I have any different results.

On another note: How realistic would it be for a team to trade away a pitcher from their starting rotation mid season?

Specifically, I'd be talking more along the lines of a 4 or 5 guy. Is that something that'd realistically happen in the majors?

It's possible, but more often then not it's only going to be veteran pitchers in the last year of their contract. Also, it's usually going to involve a team that's not in contention for making the playoffs. Anyone under 30 or so and that good rarely gets traded unless they get a lot in return.

Yes definitely. Happens all the time. Even with big name players.
