Re: 2k11 over the show? ps3
I have. The show has been my game of choice the last 4 yrs, but I gave 2k11 a shot this year and am not disappointed. I am not a franchise guy either, I just play a game a day and follow the season, pretty much play season mode in franchise mode.
The thing about this game that stands out is the variety of games. I believe I have lost and won games in every possible way a person can through 60+ gms. Yeah the graphics arent close to the Show, but I dont care about that. I care about how the game felt after the last out and 2k11 excels in this area (IMO). When I can look back and see 3 reasons why I lost the gm or say dang I got lucky to win this, or I dominated this game etc.... this is what draws me into 2k11. Add the patch, great sliders that are provided, and unbelievable commentary with awesome stat overlays through the season I would say YES 2k11 is a better game. -
I played MLB 10 last year. Picked up 2k11 after reading positive opinions post patch to try something different this yr and do not regret. I'm having more fun playing 2k11 using a slider set in these forums. The commentary is also outstanding compared to the other game andComment

Yes, all of that. It's super fun to play. Definitely a strength of the 2K series.Comment

2K11 is a good game. I think it's done a good job of establishing itself as a fun/arcade baseball game with sim elements. While I don't personally prefer it over The Show, I can appreciate what 2K has done with the game (especially the improvements since 2K9) and it sounds like 2K11 would be good for you, since you mentioned you aren't a huge baseball fan and you have grown a little tired of The Show.
It's good to switch things up every few years. If I had the time, I'd ride with both games, but that's not relevant to this thread.Currently Playing:

I've played both games, it's not even close to me. I'm not saying 2k is a bad game I like the pitching system but the hitting is just not as deep as the Show offers. Not to mention Road to the Show is ten times the mode that My Player is. Not a bad game, but the Show is the best sports game out now imo.PSN: Maserati_Bryan17Comment

Re: 2k11 over the show? ps3
i have both and play both quite a bit. there are definite pluses to each. the shows graphics....wow no question they are better. but to some, myself included, graphics are the end all. 2k11's commentary is great i think. it offers a nice variety especially compared to the shows often stale presentation.
it goes in cycles for me. one day i will want the ultra realistic show but others i want a fun game that i think offers quite a bit for the player and opt for 2k11. right now i am in a 2k11 mood who knows how long it will last. the patch really did help things for this gameGo Blue!!

Re: 2k11 over the show? ps3
Yeah, each game has its merits. The Show has been a great title for a long time. MLB 2K has not, but this year marks a massive improvement.
I think if The Show feels stale to you, MLB 2K11 will offer you a fresh and engaging interpretation of both control schemes and on-field environments. The analog pitching and fielding are very interesting (the hitting isn't done well, imo). The move away from cut scenes to one integrated environment is really nice. And of course the commentary and stats are wonderful.
I'd also say that there's a lot more baseball in MLB 2K11 than one might think given its relatively easy pickup and play feel. The most important thing in any baseball game is the batter vs. pitcher duel. In MLB 2K11 that duel is very well-represented. CPU pitchers sequence pitches in intelligent ways and vary their approaches throughout a game. CPU hitters play to the Inside Edge tendencies as far as power/contact and hot zones/cold zones go. They also can be fooled by a good sequence or capitalize on a bad one. The ratings are also well done so that you can really tell the difference between an ace, a middle of the rotation guy and a back of the rotation guy.
There are other good things strategically that are there in the game, but that's the most important one and it's the best aspect of this game I think. The Show is obviously at the head of the class and is a more complete game, but there's enough in MLB 2K11 to recommend the title for purchase, and depending on your priorities, to recommend it as your preferred baseball title.
For the guys in here that play The Show, how does the analog scheme in that game compare to the one in MLB 2K? And what do you notice in terms of similarities and differences between hitters' and pitchers' ratings and performance?
The posters in this thread are all very mature, so I think we can actually have a conversation on this topic that won't devolve or get locked lol.Comment

I think the best way to put it is this: 2K11 is a pick up and play, instant fun game. The Show is more in depth and solid if you are willing to put the time into it.
2K has made some strides over the years, but still lacks the polish The Show has....which is maddening because 2K11 has a lot to like in there. It's like a crappy looking car that you have to enter thru the passenger side door....but it still runs well and gets you where you need to go.Steam: BahnzoComment

I like how the Analog controls are implemented in the game, as they are different enough from 2K to really distinguish the two games. I'll breakdown the 3 main uses of the R-stick for both games; pitching, hitting and throwing.
Pitching: 2K gets the advantage here. Gesture controls was a genius idea and it works really well. The Show uses more of rock-and-fire system (think MVP NCAA 07), that while effective, isn't as user-friendly as 2K. You really have to work hard to throw the ball out of the strike zone with The Show's analog controls, whereas with 2K, it seems to happen more naturally, which I prefer.
Hitting: The Show gets the nod here. I get why 2K re-did its approach to hitting, but I'm not a fan. It's too easy now with only having to press up for Contact and with Power swings, you can hold the stick down as long as you want before the pitch arrives and then push forward. I like how the batters' step in The Show makes a difference in the type of contact you make on the baseball. The only negative to The Show is that it can be difficult to hit inside or outside pitches because you have to push up and to the right/left, depending on pitch location. That last little extra step makes playing on higher difficulties really difficult, and I'd like to see SCEA remove that step and just base the swing on your back-and-forth timing and then let the player ratings dictate the PCI (plate coverage index) of your batter.
Throwing: Both are pretty similar. I recommend to those that play The Show to turn the throw meter OFF because that thing is really sensitive and leads to unessecary errors. With the meter off, the player's rating takes over. You still have to be accurate with your placement on the stick (pushing towards 1B, 2B, 3B or home) but with no meter, it makes things smoother. 2K's is pretty straight forward.Currently Playing:
