It's for a really hardcore baseball fan that cares about all of the little things involved in being an MLB GM. 2K's franchise mode is pretty skimpy compared to The Show's. It's nothing bad about the game, I'm just saying The Show is much deeper than 2k.
The Show's franchise mode is deep. Unfortunately they had to install a 30 team control becasue they added way more features than they could possibly program the CPU to use competently. They have an entire thread devoted to workarounds to make this deep feature work even close to realistically. And that means doing the work for all 30 teams.

I get why people love The Show. It is purty and pretends to be a robust simulation of the sport. But it requires auto-fielding and auto-baserunning to play decently, too.

Of course, it is not a real fair complaint. There has NEVER been a competent franchise mode in any console sports game. No one has created AI that makes it a challenge to compete with, and even more, avoids the AI from doing just stupid things in terms of roster moves and line-ups. Even most text sims really lack a competent AI.

If 2K added all of the features The Show has, and they worked as poorly as they do in The Show, gamers would rage. But for some reason Sony has created a devoted community that defines greatness by whatever Sony does. That community does a fantastic job of selling the game to everyone else.

I am not sure where you are getting this or why you are overstating what you are. For some reason you appear to have some sort of grudge against the show. Most of this is simply inaccurate.

The reason why The Show players don't overly complain about the franchise issues is because the gameplay is so good that it is worth doing the workarounds to make the game even better. Plus there really aren't any problems that are game killers like 2k has had in many of their games. I think if work arounds had to be done for 2k not as many people would do it because to me the gameplay is just not on the same level as The Show's. I know when I bought 2k10 last year there would have been no way that I would have tried to find work arounds in franchise because the gameplay was so lackluster. I tried everything to make that game as good as possible, but it just couldn't be done. 2k doesn't have a good track record with making baseball games for the 360 and ps3 which is why there is so much complaining, and IMO there always will be for them. People expect more from them. They have the ability to but they just achieved it. Bottom line is I enjoy The Show's gameplay and that is why I am willing to do a few more things to make my franchise play well.

Anyway I feel kind of like a troll coming into this section because I don't have MLB 2k11 so I don't want to say much more. I'm not someone who wants to put a game down when others enjoy it. I've learned when people bash on games, it brings the fun factor for others down which is unfair to them. So with that said enjoy MLB 2k11 for all it's worth!

If you switched The Show and 2k11 around in this post, then you'd have me. I really like 2k11, but whenever I play The Show I feel like dozing off because the gameplay just doesn't do it for me. Add that in with the terrible commentary and I just don't like playing the Show that much. I still wish 2k11 had all the details the Show has with beach balls, correct base running paths, etc.

Yeah I am not a fan of the Show's commentary. I basically turn it off. At least they got rid of Rex Hudler.

Yea, I never liked the commentary in that game. Even though I don't like the game that much, i can easily tell why it is such a loved franchise.

I played The Show at my friend's house and I gotta say, it doesn't do anything for me either. It's pretty, but personally, graphics don't outshine good gameplay. I didn't go over franchise mode and all that, but from the way you guys make it sound, you have to manage all 30 teams, correct? If so, that's stupid. I like 2K because I can choose to have as many or as few teams as I want. I do like all the little details in The Show, like beachballs, people on the field, etc, but I'm willing to forgo all of that for gameplay that keeps me awake and is entertaining. Sure, 2K isn't the most realistic baseball simulation ever, but it's fun, and that's all that matters. Besides, I've never played a baseball game, or any sports game for that matter, that was flawless.

You don't have to manage 30 teams. You can manage however many you want. You get to choose the team you want to totally control and then assign a dummy profile to the other teams. The main thing is you get to pick and choose what you want to control for each the teams. So I could set Injuries, trades, bank account, lineups etc to auto or manual. I put them all on auto and it still allows me the ability to make any changes necessary if I see a problem.

For me all I do is manage every team but assign the Twins as my profile. This allows me to look over all of the other teams while still focusing on the Twins. So when a dumb trade is offered to a team I can reject the trade. If the trade is a fair deal then I let the teams involved make the decision for themselves if they want to accept it or not. The CPU still controls the teams, I can just see what it's doing. I did very little work to make my franchise feel real. There is an endless amount of possibilities with The Show's franchise.

The best part is that The Show and 2k have completely opposite gameplay. That way each of them can cater to a lot of different people. I don't like 2k baseball because I want pure realism and The Show offers that better than any other game I have played. However, others really enjoy 2k and that is great. We all spend 60$ (or there abouts) on the game so hopefully we all find a way to enjoy the games we buy.

I switched to MLB 2k11 this year after playing The Show for 4 years straight. I am a franchise player myself, and I really don't have problems with 2K11's franchise mode this year.

My only problem with 2K11 is player faces. A lot of players don't have an accurate player faces. In addition, you can't edit Minor League players faces. (I might be wrong there, but still. It's not in depth)

Can you explain how The Show offers more "pure realism" in the gameplay department. Because I just don't see it. In fact, I see it as pretty much the opposite.

LOL.. Not to get on you. But in reading your posts, outside of your obvious grudge against The Show for whatever reason, have you actually spent any time with MLB '11? It's kind of apparent from your previous posts inaccuracies that you haven't.

As far as realism, that's in the eye of the beholder, what's realistic to one, is not to the other..

First year with the Show for me and I could never go back to 2K. The Show is just a better experience for me and models baseball better.

It's clear to me that folks claim The Show is more realistic based on the graphics and cut scenes in stead of gameplay.

It seems like people are willing to say it, but have no interest in describing how they came to that conclusion.

In the Grudgematch, no one even took the time to look at statistical accuracy. I'm just wondering if a discussion will ever be held on the actual merits of the games instead of talking points. Because the statistical results I've had with 2K11 rival that of DMB and other text sims. It's not perfect, but it is really good.

So when someone says that The Show features more realism, I think it is worth asking what they are basing that on.

2k11 is for people who don't want that full realistic baseball experience but obviously there are people who do but don't have a PS3 to get The Show.
That one quote angered me quite a bit. I totally disagree with this statement. MLB power pros is for someone who doesn't want a full realistic baseball experience. Just because I chose 2K11 because I feel the analogue controls are more enjoyable to play and more realistic in it's results then SCEA's effort, does not mean I don't want a 'full realistic baseball experience'.

I enjoy 2K11, a lot. And having played both games, I think the pitching/batter battle is much more akin to real life then the other game. Yes the other game does so many things well and I enjoy playing a good game of it. But at times it feels too clinical, almost like it's focusing more on the stats then the spirit of baseball. 2K11 is flawed, flawed as heck but it is definitely better then I think others give it credit for.

At times these discussions become a form of childish playground argument with statements made that make you wonder if really the poster (not the one I quoted above I want to add) is not a 12 year old adolescent. I think both games have fans, why one has to rubbish the other is beyond me...

Way to not answer my question.

More over-exaggeration. The stats rival DMB? Come on now.

Realism is in the eye of the beholder obviously, but the notion that people only like it better because of the graphics is ludicrous.

For me, it's better between the lines. The CPU manages the opposition better. The hit variety is better. The ball physics are better. The statistics are better. The players performing like their real life counter parts are better. Things like low power, high average guys perform like they do in real life. They aren't nerfed like they are in 2k. High power guys aren't over powered like they are in 2k. The animation in the field aren't even close.

2k11 shines in presentation for sure. That's not even close. It's also far superior in online game performance. I like it's features better, particularly MLB Today.

I am not sure why you put extra vigor when downplaying what the Show is, nor why you say some of the things you say. It's almost as if you've not ever really played the MLB '11 but have gleaned some of the complaints of the game from the past.
