    Baserunning AI

So I have a man on 3rd with less than two outs. I hit a hard ground ball in the hole between 3rd & short. The 3rd baseman dives and makes a great play. He gets up and throws me out.
I think, "Nice play dude, but at least I scored a run." HUH? My runner is still on 3rd. I looked at the replay and saw that as soon as I hit the ball toward the hole the runner dived back to the bag! WT_? I looked at the runner's speed and it was 75. What happened to going on contact especially since the ball was not hit dead on to the 3rd basemen?

Since then I've been watching closely and this happens a lot when runners are either on 2nd and/or 3rd and a ground ball is hit. They all have this penchant to dive back to the bag or at least head back to the bag several times costing me a run on a base hit. Today with a runner on third and two outs I hit a fly ball and watched the runner on 3rd go back to the bag to tag up!!
    With two outs! Come on!

Is this happening to anyone else?
Is this stupid AI or am I missing a setting? (Like acceleration, etc.)

Are you manually sending your runner home? If not, that's your answer. Past that, the AI in this series has always been very poor. We've all just learned to live with it over the years.

This issue has been a problem. I suggest you post this issue here:

Unfortunately it just sounds like typical 2k ai.

Try tuning the base running aggressiveness slider and see if that helps.

Otherwise yea, the logic might be a tad wonky. Post this in the glitches thread here: http://www.operationsports.com/forum...ure-patch.html

LOL, that's the understatement of the OS forum so far in 2012.

I was playing the the base running drills the other day and every time that I would go to steal a base the runner would jog in and upright position and get thrown out by a mile. I was using Carlos Gomez and nyjer Morgan which are both pretty fast people.did they add some other button to hit while running to make the guy actually run and not look like someone going for an afternoon jog.

Exactly, that happens a lot. I'd actually like to know why it happens that my guy gets caught in a rundown, and just inexplicably stops running like that while being chased. Is it because of his baserunning rating or something?

is it just me, or is baserunning really slow?

Is the animation causing him to be slower, or is he running the same speed if the animation looked correctly? I'm doing my player, and my player is running so slow that I've been thrown out at 2nd off a base hit because it takes him forever to start actually running

Someone mentioned that base stealers will stop running half way to second and suddenly start jogging. I haven't seen that, but is that one of the issues you're seeing? Don't know about getting quick jumps. Couldn't say if that's the programming issue or a player ratings thing. You can test that though, pretty easy to check out.

I honestly find stealing in this gme very easy. Most the time my fast players ( Ellsbury, Crawford ) will make it to 2nd or 3rd no problem. I wouldn't run with anybody under the speed of 80, I would expect to get thrown out then.

But also I do find the AI run very poorly and diving back/etc.

That upright running while looking skyward seems to be their new base running animation, which I absolutely hate! On infield grounders, watch the replay of the batter. He'll get out of the box fine, but then all of a sudden change to that upright animation instead of the head down, bust it down the line run that i loved in 2k11. Funny thing is that I don't recall once anyone complaining about the animations. Only the way they round the bases, which is fine this year except for this: sometimes on hits to the outfield, the batter will run down the line past first base and not round first. Other times, on infield grounders, they'll round first and get tagged out. Are you kidding me?

Base running animations and ai clearly needs to be addressed in the patch. Bring back last years animation, even the hr trot looked better last year. This years is a little too upright for me.

Has anyone also had a problem sending players from first to third? 3 or 4 times when I've tried, the runner still stops at second, and only start running to third after the ball has gotten back to the infield, so I end up in a run down.

Yes I have had that happen several times.

Also, every time I have a man on second and I hit a ground ball behind him he retreats to second. Was in the 9th with man on 2nd - 0 out. ground ball to 2nd and my guy dove back to 2nd......automatic he should advance to 3rd.

Also had an incident with a man on 3rd, less than 2 outs. Middle infield was back, ground ball to short stop, my guy dove back to third. My runner should have known they were giving up the run.

Those are situations that denote an advance barring line drives.

Fyi, really enjoying what this game offers so far.

I've been playing w auto baserunning for the past couple of games and plays great thus far. Only once the cpu got caught attempting to steal on the first pitch with Brett Lawrie when i've would have waited until later in the pitch count. Will continue on auto until it is hopefully tweaked via patch.
