Are there a realistic number of walks, foul balls etc. in this game?

I need a baseball fix but I don't want to fork out 60 bones for a game that does not play like the game of baseball. I am a realism geek so I look for every little detail. No game is perfect but is this game worth the purchase for someone like myself or will it just end up being frustrating? Also can you control all roster movement for every team or can you only control one organization? I have to have accurate rosters as they are in real life. That would be a deal breaker for me. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Yes to all your questions. Get the game, it's worth it. More so on the PC than the console though, doubt I'd buy it for the 360 if I had to but that's just me.

Yes, however the little things add up. It's a pretty good game compared to previous years and I have fun with it. I had to adjust the sliders a bit so I would throw more balls and would get walked more. Overall though yeah, It's realistic, but at the same time it's still a video game.

Honestly, in my opinion, if you're looking for a game to play just individual baseball games, head to head match-ups, and just look for something to enjoy playing baseball on, then I think 2k is pretty suitable once you found a good slider set and got accustomed to the game play.

For realism within franchise and simming, nope, don't even make an attempt.

I think it's kinda hard to get fouls or walks in this game. I can be 3-0 and then the pitcher will throw 3 strikes in a row. The defensive swing no longer fouls balls off. They all end up being weak hits for outs.

You're wrong or you're just not using a good slider set.I walk and be walked costantly.

I use an excel sheet to write down my stats. I am averaging 4.7 BBs over the last 10 games...

                To the op,

Fouls balls are on the low side, I get an average of about 30/game. This causes the pitches counts to come in low on average. Pitches/PA in this game averages out to about 3.4, where as the MLB average is 3.8. IMO, because of this, you'll find pitchers to be able to go an extra inning or two than normal on average. Franchise mode might get on your nerves sooner than later, and I don't believe the patch is going to address "realism".

If you use custom sliders you can get plenty of walks.

You must mean you get 30 foul balls per game with both teams combined. Correct?

If so, yes, that it too low.

My last 3 games the AI had 135, 149 and 158 pitches (9 inning games). I was of your opinion before, but after tweaking sliders and getting better playing the game I can not complain about those things anymore.

When I played I got plenty of walks, or at least I would have gotten more if I could lay off some pitches. As far as pitch count goes, it's game-to-game. I once had the SP up to 80 pitches in the 5th inning. Other games I can't get them above 80 in the entire game. Just depends really.

Is there a season mode or is it franchise only. I take what most of you are saying is that the sim stats and game results are not realistic. Is that about right?

                            Yes, per game, teams combined.

I too have had games with pitch counts high, but that's not how you should look at it. If I throw 135 pitches to 40 batters, yes that's 135 pitches, but the pitches per PA is still 3.4 in this case. Of course you have to average things out over many games. And remember, the OP said he was a realism geek.

That being said, could you say what slider set you use? I'd like to try.
