Since using the advice from VC_Plant, I've had no problems whatsoever. I simply not expecting 2K to address this, and I'm pretty pleased with the fix provided here. If you guys follow his specific, simple directions the problem will be over for you.

        3) Make sure you do not hit B and cancel the schedule/roster/etc sync when you boot up the game.

If your profile is offline, the living rosters are off, or you don't do the initial sync fully it will crash. You will shouldn't need to delete any save files or anything now.
A bump for those looking for the steps.

            1) in your xbox system / storage - delete you MLB 2K12 SETTINGS save - you do NOT need to delete your profile, sliders or rosters - JUST your "settings" file. Your xbox can be connected to Live - it doesn't matter
            2) put your game in your xbox - let the menus start up. when the two options come on the screen, turn ON Living Rosters and turn OFF Autosave
            3) The screen will now take a few seconds to load up - the MLB Today schedule will have to load EACH time you load your game
            4) you can update your settings and save your Settings file

            You're now good to go...

As long as you leave Living Rosters ON and are logged in to XBox Live, you'll be fine.

Does this work for the PC version?

It should (same issue is crashing it, Living Rosters set to OFF is causing it to look at a date with no game scheduled), but I'm not sure how to delete your settings file on PC.
