WSB2k1 and HRK was developed by WOW. 2k2, WSB, and 2k3 was developed by Blue Shift. Wow's attention to detail with regards to the players and its batter/pitcher interface are still the best we have ever seen. I agree that builing upon this engine would be a great idea. But unfortunately it will not happen. So don't get your hopes up.

Home Run King is a blast, and once tweaked, it was incredibly enjoyable.
My best HRK moment, ironically, came after losing. Mike Cameron hit a bottom of the 11th game winning home run off me - where he was promplty mobbed at homeplate by his teammates.
HRK had tons of little things that made the game feel like baseball... including lighting that progressed during the day. Days became afternoons, and afternoons became nights. Too bad they never made a follow up.
Oh, it also had, bar none, the best stadium graphics I've ever seen.Comment

I'm in the same camp with you guys. I loved WSB2k1, even though it got crucified in the reviews for not having human controlled fielding (although it really kind've did, in a way). I've always thought WSB2k1's engine was a helluva building block for a GREAT baseball game...much better than what BlueShift has done. No offense FatPitcher, but I wished Sega would turn back to WOW. Their batting stances, pitching styles and overall planyer animation was the best I've seen.Comment

i'm in the same boat. I loved WSB 2K1 and HRK for all the above mentioned reasons. It gave it such a feel of realism when you are standing in against a pitcher where his wind-up is photo-realistic to real life. It almost seemed all the superstars were motioncaptured. Everything right down to the backswings of the players. Simply Amazing. It's too good of a game to not come back in one form or the other. In the past i have e-mailed WOW Entertainment to no respose. Here's to hopeing.Comment
