MLB 2k8 - Decided to go back to 2k8 - Gameplay Questions:

If anyone is still playing MLB2k8 or recalls its control, I need some assistance.

    (1) Pitching: The "3 pitch technique" was working perfectly fine, then all of a sudden it's gone to a "2 pitch technique" so to speak. The pitch meter seems to always hit full power. Sometimes it would revert back to normal. Did i accidentally do something? If so, how do I revert back to a 3 pitch technique.

    (2) Fielding: Is a their a "catch" button? My outfielder sometimes would drop the ball even though he is directly under the ball. A few too many errors when fielding; How do I rectify this? Am I doing something wrong?

    Thanks.

There is no catch button. I think you just have bad luck.

    A little practice will help

The 'catch' thing you just might have to update sliders if it happens too often.

I think you can choose what kind of pitch settings (2 or 3 step) through a controller menu.

        There was not a two-step in 2K8.

Catching flyballs was an issue, although once I got used to where the game expected me to place the fielder, it was fine. This is an area that Kush improved on and really nailed by 2K12.

The system they use was in place for 2K11, but the initial jump by the OF was always a beeline for the actual drop point, even if it had not been revealed yet. 2K12 just aims to the middle of the drop zone, and you adjust when the drop point appears. The size of the drop zone an how early the drop point appears is related to your fielder's ratings.

I really liked 2K8, but once 2K11 came, I no longer saw it as the best in this series since they went to analog pitching. There are still features I miss, like the three-step pitching and the menu for checking your opponent's bench.

          interesting.
for three bucks at GStop you can get 2k8 and 2k7.
I might do that, just for fun.

Yes, it's a 3 step analog pitching motion. By "2 step" I meant I was not able to vary the size of the yellow pitch circle. I was getting the entire circle filled yellow to the max (max power) all the time.

My pitcher does better when the yellow circle only fills up 50% or 40%, or anything that isn't 100% full yellow. I thought maybe because the pitcher was tired or something. I subbed out the pitcher, had a mound visit, but the yellow circle remains filling up to 100% status. That's what I meant by 2 step. A true 3 step allows me to vary the yellow circle filled percentage.

I would have also grab MLB 2k7 but the PS3 starts at 2k8. The color palette and lighting looks much more realistic in 2k8/2k7. The player models are more realistic especially when the batter is at the plate. Do, however, realize that fielding is a lot more difficult than either the newer 2k series or MLB the show. Fielding errors will happen.

2k7 is available for the 3.

If you don't have a Gamestop (or if they don't have it), 2nd & Charles often has a lot of used games. It's the used bookstore outlet for the Books A Million chain.

Don't expect it to look like the 360 version though. It doesn't.

The 2k7 PS3 version still looks incredible though. What's strange is that 2k7/2k8 actually looks like the newer version of the game while 2k11/2k12 looks like prior installments of 2k baseball.

With practice, I'm actually making all my outfield catches now with less infield errors, they still happen on occasion but to the point where they actually make sense.

I'll give the pitch setting a test run (if there is one) when I put 2k8 back in my system (currently I have 2k7 going). The strange thing is that the 3 step and 2 step comes into play throughout the entire game.

2k8 and 2k7 definitely plays differently.

Good to know for future references, but I did manage to grab a 2k7 at the local gamestop. Thanks.
