    why didn't 2k just patch 2k12

And do people a favor who bought last years version. Releasing this game again and charging $60 is a new low imo. I'm not even someone who panned 2k12. I'm someone who liked it and thought the series was looking up. Why not just keep selling last years version and patch it for those of us who bought it already? I didn't buy the game btw. I'm still playing 2k12. Why even release this? Is 2k really that desparate for cash?

I tend to think 2k's fanbase would keep coming back if they did the right thing here. This just seems like bad. You are just going to lose more customers than anything.

Has logic and common sense just gone out the window with corporations?

    Easy answer- $$$$

    You can't sell a patch for $59.99

Disclaimer: I actually haven't played the game this year, just answering the OP's question.

I actually enjoyed 2k12 a lot and wish 2k would really put their best foot forward with this game, but from everything I''ve read that didn't happen this year.

Yup. All of the positive comments I've heard about 2K13 have been for things that could have and should have been patched in 2012. Or for "colors." I'm hoping that once the perfect game challenge passes, and we get a few months into the regular season, I'll be able to snag a used copy for a more reasonable price.

I'd pay $5 for an update on xbox live to change the logos and rosters.. That's as far as I'd go for mlb 2k13. I'm sure someone will do the rosters anyways for 2k12 to match?

Because the licensing agreements don't work that way.

That is not the whole story, MLB approached 2k very late and asked them to release a 2k13 game for the consoles. MLB wanted the last year with the current generation consoles to have a baseball and they are working to find another company to make a baseball game for the XBOX's new system

2k had given up on making Baseball games, by the time MLB came to them and asked them to release a game they had only a couple months to finish and release a game.

Instead of paying MLB for licensing this time around MLB paid 2k to release a game and take the heat for it being nothing more than a glorified roster update

It's understandable we wouldn't see much improvement because the game was basically shelved. What was 2k supposed to say if MLB did approach them as some have said and made a deal for them to release the game with only a short cycle?

What isn't acceptable is that they are charging full price for what amounts to the same game. Another alternative I would have liked is if 2K had agreed to the deal with MLB and released the game by opening day, giving them almost another month to work on things.

Yeah, I am sure it was all in how the numbers added up but it would have been nice to see 2K give the "Grand Experiment" of sports gaming a try - releasing just a title update on off years.

2K could sell the 2K13 update for 3200msp and still sell an all inclusive boxed copy for $60. They maintain a store presence and the update price is high enough that 2k12 used game sales are not a factor.

It would have been a nice study for the gaming industry. Instead they just followed the same old industry equation of "lets see if _blank_ sports fans are willing to pay $60 for little more than a roster update".

Gamers crack me up. This game is WAY more than a roster update. But continue to complain. I don't expect much more.

Obviously you didn't spend much time with 2k12.......

and a review that pretty much sums up the feelings of 2k baseball gamers everywhere:

Having put in 35 innings of "work" with MLB 2K13 and time skimming through Association and MyPlayer modes there's really no reason to dig any deeper into the game to review. Conjecture that it would be 2K12 with a roster update and only the absolutely necessary changes like the Astros to the AL and new

I don't know if way more is the correct term.

Considering 2k only had about 3 months of tme to work on it. That's about a quarter of the time they usually have. There are some improvements but it's about a quarter of what we usually get.

                          IT's basically 2k12.25

Do I like the game? Yes I think on the field minus some graphic deficiencies it's just as good as any other baseball game out there. Just disapointing is all. This really could have been the year 2k stepped to the plate.

This game could be better than the show if they put it all together.

But honestly this game new is not worth more than $15.

A little adjustment there for a couple of reasons, hehe. Seriously, the MLB 2K series back in 2006 or so was shaping up to be the best baseball series ever, and by leaps and bounds. Their zone hitting and ball physics coding and programming was far, far ahead of anything that's been done before or since. I would spend as much time practicing hitting as I did playing, marvelling at the astounding real-time physics as the ball came off the bat.

Then the zombie apocalypse happened apparently and everyone at 2K had their brains eaten. What a waste.

That's the thing though baile. Ths game does things that wow's me more than any other game sometimes. I hit a ball into the corner and the way the ball bounces around is that. Something with 2k is just immersive. The weight of the players and how the ball interacts with the fielders etc. It has that potential but then 2k gets really sloppy.

Sometimes if I look at this game just right it seems almsot three dimensional moreso than the other game. The physics are great. Other times not so much.

I was just playing a game and the ball was hit over my head and was far anough where i really had to chase it. I could see the ball floating over my head as i crashed into the wall and caught it. It was crazy.

2k seems to be playing catchup this gen more than anything though, but there are aspects and things I still see in this game I don't see elsewhere.
