    Sim-itis...

Havent played either baseball game this year yet. Plan on picking up 2k probably even though I own a PS3.
    Here's why...
While I really am impressed by the realism in The Show, if I play a 9 inning game, and absorb all the game has to offer (I love replays etc. so I dont really button mash through the presentation stuff) it takes almost as long to play a game as it does to actually watch a real MLB game.
This is where The Show suffers from what I call SIM-ITIS.
Its realism in someways destroys its fun. Not that I dont want the realism,
but theyve gotta find a way to re-think and capture what 2k does better.
Unfortunately its one of only a few things 2k does better.
The real hook that gets me with 2k is the pitcher/batter interface.
Using the sticks to execute pitches in different movements makes for a
completely different dynamic compared to The Show. For a couple seasons
I went to it from The Show based on that alone. Thats how much better it makes the game feel for me anyway.
Anyway, Im glad to see 2k pushed another game out for this year.
I think this time next year will be completely different.
I would expect The Show to do some very different things making the jump to the new hardware. As for what will surface on the XBOX next gen for baseball...Who knows right?
    Now for some questions...
Do you see guys warming up when you have guys in the Pen?
Does either game have old school teams and stadiums?
How about Managers mound visits, any effect on the pitcher?
I havent played either game since last April for lack of time so I cant remember any details.
    Thanks in advance

    Re: Sim-itis...

When in doubt about the posting rules for threads like this, try this experiment: Take your post, and post it in both the 2K and SCEA forums. When you get warned in this forum and banned in the other, you'll know the thread actually belonged in the Other Baseball Games forum.

I've read your post twice now, trying to get a handle on what you're asking and looking for. You don't want too much sim, but then you ask a bunch of questions having to do with which sim elements are in the game. It's pretty easy. 2K: organic gameplay, but no real depth -- few options and not really all that sim. The Show: mechanical, scripted gameplay, but much more depth when it comes to game options and the game experience itself.

No old school teams/stadiums in 2K (1 stadium only which you can't use in season mode). But you can create a lot of the old stars and Thorne will announce their names.

      Re: Sim-itis...

I've played both games and I own both consoles, but I play 2K because I do most of my gaming on the xbox360. With that said...

...if both games were on the 360, I would probably play The Show because of the realism. I love the pitching mechanics, commentary is always excellent, and the online competition is fun, but overall 2K is not in the same league as The Show. The Show offers better graphics, more and better modes, more authencitiy...and just better overall value. Let me put it this way, if these were baseball organizations, The Show is in the majors, 2K is a mid-tier AAA club.

This is all hypocritical, of course, because I play 2K, so take it as you will.

        Re: Sim-itis...

There's a Q&A thread. Please use it. Thanks.
"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

"You'll not find more penny-wise/pound-foolish behavior than in Major League Baseball." - Rob Neyer
