I got the impression that it would be

It sounded like they were very high on ESPN and MVP though and the rest of the games weren't up to par with them. Right now those are the 2 games I'm really look forward to. It's good to see such close competition because it'll bring out the best in all the games.

Amen. We all benefit from the competition.

They pretty much made it sound like ESPN didn't make any big changes and MVP added everything you can possibly imagine. The little summaries said ESPN may not have enough changes to compete, and MVP "threw down the gauntlet" at Sega.

In any case, they're on crack if they think ASB is worse than Slugfest, so you can dismiss the whole article as meaningless babble anyway. Quite honestly - from everything I've read and seen - it looks like ASB05 is just as good as ESPN and MVP. They just have some irrational hatred for the series at OXM.

I'm right with you on that Cub. I think ASB 2005 is going to be really good & surprise alot of people. As for ESPN, I don't like the look & animations a bit. The colors are not realistic, the batter swings are still bad, & the player models are the worst in any BB game in my opinion. MVP is tops in my book. Nothing compares to MVP's awesome graphics & animations, & if the gameplay is as improved as they're saying, then it will rule all. Oh & I can't forget about 989's MLB 2005, which is really showing some potential with all the improvements being made.
So it looks like ESPN is on the bottom of the list for me. Which is ashame because Sega use to be my favorite when it came to baseball games. Starting with Sports Talk Baseball on the Genesis & ending with WSB 2K1 on the Dreamcast. After that it's gone down hill since Blueshift & VC took over. I really wish Sega had given WOW one more chance.

I liked the cursor hitting in WSB last year .I dont have a problem with them switching it to zone hitting as long as it is done like high heat,Than i'll be a happy camper. And on that slugfest is going to be better than ASB this year who ever wrote that is on crack

Re: ESPN preview in OXM

Cursor batting is still an option. We've also added the option of having just one button for swings instead of power/contact.

The new batting system isn't really zone. You'll aim the same way, pointing the stick at where the ball is relative to the center of the strike zone, but the more precise your aim, the better the hit. In other words, you don't depend on luck to hit the ball well. If you aim perfectly, you will hit it hard, but it's more difficult to get the aim just right because you have 360 degrees of aiming rather than the 9 zones. It's like having a zone for every direction that you can push the analog stick.

It works out well since you can still get good hits on balls out of the strike zone, but the further away from the center of the zone the pitch is, the more precise your aim has to be, so it's less likely you'll drive a ball that's out of the strike zone.

WalMart lowers their prices to drive competition out of business, then raises them once they are dominating local sales. They can do this because they are making lots of money elsewhere. EA is the WalMart of the game industry. When they aren't #1 in a genre, they'll take a loss, spend a ton of money on a game, drive smaller competitors out, then rake in the profits by releasing small upgrades to their games at full price (Sims, Madden, Medal of Honor, Triple Play, FIFA, etc. ad nauseam.) Good thing for them that customers have short memories.

You're preaching to the choir, FatPitcher.

Just like in any other industry, people often buy a brand name as opposed to the best product. Why do you think the PS2 is STILL outselling the Xbox and GameCube? Cause people think "video game system" and say "PS2." Just like people think "sports game" and say "EA Sports game".
