Re: This is NO offence at all, but...
Come on badgun, these are valid reviews and MVP
s reviews have consistantly been higher than ESPN's, however I don't agree with them at all, after puting some play time in with MVP you begin to see the the problems with this game's gameplay and the dynasty mode glitch is just too much of a problem to just look over. For me I'm going with ESPN this year, I don't care what the reviews say it played good last year and I'm sure it will be just as good this year.Comment

Badgun, those reviewers get an early copy that is used for impressions on the game. Obviously, ESPN isn't cutting it this year. Also Badgun, how can you say that ESPN is going to be the best of the four games? Didn't you hear Shawn in the impression thread? Some things are even worst than last year. Looks like MVP is the champ.
<hr /></blockquote><font class="post">
Wonder why Shawn hasn't checked if the steal problem is still there? It was probably the biggest complaint last year, yet when he's been asked about it he doesn't seem to know if it's fixed or seem to care.
That would be the first thing I would do if I had a copy of the game, yet it's not high on his list?
Oh and what is worse than last year, I must have missed that. Basically what Shawn has said is gameplay is about the same or only marginally better. That's fine with me. I loved the game last year and played a full 162 game season and I hate batting cursors. This year they took the cursor away so that's even better for me.
What you don't understand Sportsgamer, is that games like MVP and MLB had so much room to improve because they were both incomplete games last year. ESPN was the best game last year and quite frankly what did they really have to improve on? The bottom line is that ESPN did not make massive improvements this year and it's being criticized unjustly for it.
I could really care less which game you buy, but before you buy MVP I suggest you go and read Shawn's review again and then ask yourself how he could have missed all the things wrong with the game. Then ask yourself how much faith you want to put in his ESPN impressions.
Hell, when he was posting MVP impressions you couldn't get him out of the forums, now that it's ESPN what does he do post once a day?
Like I said, I couldn't care less which game you buy, but I'd bet good money that ESPN will play a better game of baseball than the other two. When I say play a better game of baseball, I'm talking about fundamentally sound baseball, not fluff like minor leagues or Rule 5 or any of that other crap that people seem to fawn over with these games.
MVP can't even get the most basic things right like when to pinch hit for the pitcher. Oh and lest we forget about the absolute ton of miraculous diving catches that we see in MVP.
See you here Wednesday and we can discuss what ESPN does right like player fatigue, walks, steals, and even wind and don't forget that it has a ton of sliders that should be able to make a difference in whatever might not be perfect in the game. No, I didn't draft Grossman on my fantasy team, what do you think I am an idiot?

Re: This is NO offence at all, but...
Each game and how they are perceived is all up to each individual.
You were right to show the pluses and minuses of each game, although I thought you were a little harsh on ASB.
If you recall with WSB last year people were posting slider settings ALL SEASON LONG trying to get the game to feel right. It was a never ending posting of slider settings.
For a game to be successful for a gamer you have to look at how good/bad he/she plays video games. I could not hit for the life of me with ASB cursor hitting last year. The speed of the pitch was just too fast. I had a blast playing timed hitting. Some people will criticize timed hitting, but that's not the point.
All the pros and cons can be stated. Then people who read the threads will have something to go on. Just like the criticism of the guys playing Manager Mode on ASB. Look over there and I think you'll see these guys having a blast, even though it might seem less fun than fighting with the running and fielding mechanics (which some can easily master) to some people. Heck, I read last year that a guy was playing ASB on cursor with the fast pitching and hitting homerun after homerun. Surely that person never found a game to suit this ability.
All games have their good and bad. So far I think everyone would like to see High Heat gameplay quality out of these games, but it just ain't happenin' yet. Are they close? Yes and no. They still have a ways to go.Comment

Re: This is NO offence at all, but...
I think that's why ea doesn't send out incomplete games early for people to review...They already know people love ea whether the game is good or not..and people will not have time to play the game extensively..So when they get the final copy to review (The version all of us get) They spend a little time with it and give there review..But if you really look at the game.Up front it's a pretty good game so they stop and write there review for it praising it...But the sad thing is most of these bugs on the game don't come till later on and then start rearing it's ugly head...And it's too late to put the bad in the game...Again Most of these reviews for Mvp are done very quickly because most people already say they love the game before they even play with it.I don't care..With espn the crowd may be boring but I can deal witht he pitching/Batting interface and I will know that I have the best playing game on the market...( GameplayWise) LaterComment

That's no excuse whatsoever. Just speaking about the OS review of MVP, Shawn said he had been playing the game for 2 weeks prior to his review. You're going to tell me that in those two weeks, he never saw the CPU let its pitcher bat in the 8th inning of a tie game? I saw that in my first game. After two weeks don't you think he might have said something like "EA went over the top with the diving catches because I see 4 or 5 in every game"?
Like I said, I can understand that he didn't catch the player progression problem, but if he was doing his homework, he would have caught that. Everyone always wants to know how good players progress and when did so and so retire so theoretically, Shawn could have simmed 8 or 10 seasons and maybe saw that players weren't developing properly. It only took about 3 days for most of the glaring flaws to be discovered.
And I certainly wouldn't say that OS' review of MVP was rushed either as they usually spend a lot of time with each game before passing out a review.
I'm just saying based on Shawn's MVP review, I wouldn't put a whole lot stock in what he says about ESPN.No, I didn't draft Grossman on my fantasy team, what do you think I am an idiot?
