I finally found out the status of the PS2 game from the forum administrator over at ESPNvideogames.com:

They don't know when the game will be shipped. They are "waiting for approval" from Sony. It's not April 13, it's not May 5. Nobody knows. It could be June for all we know. Hope this helps for anybody holding out for this game.

Terrible, terrible service if you ask me. At least send out a press release or something.

Yeah, that's what's been killing me with all this - no press releases or anything except what we have here and whenever we see the date get pushed back. Not good in my eyes.
Yes, I've been here since 2003. No, I don't post much. I'm too busy playing the games.

I remember last year the PS2 version came out a week later. I didn't have an Xbox at the time, so it was brutal. This year it's even worse I see.

Re: PS2 version pushed back to May 5th!?

(Sorry, this is long, but it pretty much sums up a diehard baseball fan dissappointed in Sony's handling of the PS2 version)

This may sound a little silly, but this whole "game-pushed-back-another-month" thing has turned me sour towards Sony.

After reading this board for about 30 minutes this morning, I go out on the town (it's my day off) and run a couple of errands at my local mall, and low and behold, I stumble upon Gamestop. I decided to stop in just to see if the game shipped. Not surprisingly, they told me May 12th---just like somebody else on here posted. So I say "that's cool" and start looking around at other games. I come upon an X-Box in the store and start playing the "Top Spin" demo. And I played. And played. And played some more (Keep in mind that I hate Tennis!!!). I was blown away---the X-Box graphics were awesome, the game was fun, and the controller--which looks like a projectile from outer space---was very similiar to the PS2. So I leave, and for the next 30 minutes I walk around the mall wondering if I should trade in my PS2 for a new X-Box just for one freaking game, alternating decsions every other minute or so.

It sounds silly, of course, to even consider this b/c of one game, but the X-Box thorougly impressed me. I went to a pawn shop and the guy told me he'd pay $80.00 store credit for my PS2, $75 for used versions of Madden 2004, NCAA 2004, and ESPN College Hoops, and $50 for my used Grand Theft Auto Vice City and Gallop Racer 2004 PS2 games. If you add all that up, that's $205 worth of store credit I could put towards a BRAND NEW X-BOX and ESPN Baseball and have about $10 left over for 2 used DVD's. That would allow me to also purchase the new football games this fall (I wasn't planning on it b/c I like Maddden and NCAA so much).

Sorry for the long post, but the point is this: I love my PS2, but Sony really screwed up this time, and it's going to come back to bite them in the butt. I'm sure there's others like me who don't like to get duped. I just obtained my BA in Public Relations last fall, and rule #1 of our profession is to ALWAYS KEEP YOUR PUBLICS INFORMED. I feel so left out in the cold with ESPN Baseball, and it's not even funny. So Sony, I don't speak Japanese, but if I knew how, I'd tell you to fire your PR Director and hire somebody else. This is ridiculous, and I'm not going to wait for a game that's already out on another system.

Hmmm.....Maybe there's a reason Bill Gates is the richest man in the world.

Sony wants you guys to buy MLB 2005 (989). Its more money for them, people will crack, and get it cause they want a game, and dont want to wait.

Sony strongarm tactics, and you guys think MS is a monster
