Re: Where are the long term tests of ESPN?

see this is kinda what i was getting at

mvp trashers point out that it's arcade and that dynasty's broken. they claim that espn is the "best baseball game of all time", "the game for serious simmers", etc. yet none of these "serious simmers" have taken any time to make sure dynasty is not broken on espn. i actually saw one poster say that he was going to stop reading these boards because he'd rather not know about any game killing bugs because he was having too much fun playing espn. while that's fine for that guy and probably many others, it goes against all these people who can't stop talking about espn as the ultimate sim game. i guess i'm calling out these people to kinda point out why they claim to be "serious simmers" but are content to hope that espn's franchise isn't broken instead of actually making sure it's not before making their claims.

Then why dont you test it out yourself if its that important to you...You dont need OS to find out if you dont like the franchise

actually i'm really not as interested in the results as I am to find out why all of the self-proclaimed serious baseball sim fans have accepted this game at face value with no long term testing. isn't a HUGE part of being a serious sim baseball fan based on how a game's dynasty/franchise mode works?

No, not at all. The whole point of a franchise is to depart from reality and try to take your team to the top in the shortest time possible even if your team happens to be the Expos. That's not "sim" and it's not supposed to be. I don't think the quality of franchise is that important to having a good "sim". The gameplay has to be the most like real baseball, with smart AI moves and realistic stats to be a sim. I think everyone would like for Franchise mode to be great and for the CPU to never make dumb decisions, but I don't think it is not essential to even have a franchise mode to have a great "sim".

Edit: could I use "sim" a few more times in one paragraph?

So this is yet ANOTHER thread created just to start a war. You don't care about the results, just to know that someone's testing? You just need validation to bitch about something?

For your information 100's of people test games as soon as they get them. Some just have things jump out at them so it's not even like they know they're testing. Like you, many only post when they find problems. Some happy they found a flaw to make the game look bad and others posting to let others know and hope to find a solution. Usually when there aren't many posts like that it means there aren't many issues to worry about. There is no conspiracy to hide the flaws of the game so people like it better than another game. Hate to burst your bubble on that. If you're dying to find out what's wrong with the game then figure it out on your own. When you do, let me know b/c I haven't found anything big yet.

If you are really concerned about these long term tests, go out and rent the game and test it.

I'll also add that being a serious sim baseball fan isn't JUST about how a games dynasty/franchise work. What about realistic stats? What about walks? What about stolen bases? What about LH HR's? Other games struggle with these things, but ESPN does them very well.
