Re: Take-Two drops ESPN name early

I only wonder that will people see MLB 2K5 and MLB 2006 for the PS2 on the rack and immediately buy the 2006 game because they think it's the newest game. I don't know if I would ever change my game's name to a similar name of a game already on the market.

very true statement. espn game in the past were horrible. i tried a few at demo stations and it was always amazing they even put their name on it.

people forget before VC made espn games the talk was would espn hurt their image not the other way around.

i just thought of this. what is going to happen in a few years when people buy the new ESPN hockey game, if still has EA style of play?

they'll be sitting there muttering, "what the *@@#! happened to this game?"

The article said it was a March 15th release. I thought it was pushed up to March 1st with the other two games?

Also, I have faith that a lot of gamers are able to differentiate between competitive products, by what the boxes look like and who is labeled as the publisher on the front of the box.
That doesn't make sense because the consumers are the people who matter. If the fans are abbreviating the two games down to basically the same thing then there will be a great deal of confusion. The only people who will easily differentiate between the two products will be the hard core gamers. Yes, this will be a lot of people, but they're also the ones that marketing affects less in the first place. If you're marketing a product like this you can assume your core market will show up no matter what but it's the borderline purchasers who you're trying to convince. You and I will know the difference between the two but what about the moms and little kids out there who won't know exactly what they're getting?

Re: Take-Two drops ESPN name early

I applaud Take Two for doing this ballsy move. Basically they were saying "well ESPN since you are selling out to EA why should we keep helping to promote your brand of sports entertainment?".

I would do the same thing Take Two did. Imagine if you owned a Major League baseball team. Lets use the Cubs for example and say it was the last 2 weeks of the season, even if you won every game youd still miss the playoffs, and Sammy Sosa allready said he was leaving to go play for Baltimore. Okay say he was 4 homeruns away from breaking the record. What do you do? BENCH HIS *** for the remainder of the season. Why help him when hes gonna bounce on you anyways? Since hes not gonna play for you next year, and since you have no hopes of reaching the playoffs, might as well stab him for stabbing you. (i know thats a long analogy, but I had to do it).

I would like them to make a deal with Fox Sports but to keep what ESPN just did from happening again I'm sure they won't be making any deals with networks anytime soon.

Good for Take 2. I'm glad they are showing some fight in them by making this deal with the MLBPA and MLB (although I hate all these exclusive or semi-exclusive deals). It shows that they aren't going to just let this great brand of games go down in flames.
