Slam Zone appears to be "here's the ball... press this button numerous times to build up power... press this button to connect." How are those two features similar?

    Judging on what little I have see of it -- and, yes, I know that is unfair, but you have to admit you are doing the same thing -- it looks extremely hokey and out of place in a game that has built up it's reputation on being a sim. That, combined with the showboating feature, really could become an issue for those looking for the truest sim game of the year. Regardless of if you can turn the features on or off.

    Slam Zone(Hitter's Eye), I repeat, is a guess pitch type(enables you to read the pitch ), guess location(determine where it may end up) It is the same since its inception with 989 sitting on a pitch, if you know what you are looking for, you swing for the fences. I admit, it is a more carefully crafted and germaine to baseball. Which takes away from the arcadey sound of Slam Zone.

    Mashing buttons repeatedly(sp) doesn't take away from a sim experience. An act of excerption doesn't equate to arcadey to me in my mind. The mash of the button is to fill the power bar/meter.

    Just think of it as a 3 step process.

    1. Guess Pitch
    2. Guess Location
    That is what 989 Guess pitch is, and the same goes for MVP(this year)
    The 3rd step in the process, is the aforementioned is just swing and the cpu attribute carries it out giving you the result.

    3. MLB2K5, allows you to be a part of the result, base on how much power you can deliver with that player.

            It almost sounds like loading up for a pitch.I'll reserve my judgement until I play it,but it sounds like if implemented properly may be a nice feature.

              It almost sounds like loading up for a pitch.I'll reserve my judgement until I play it,but it sounds like if implemented properly may be a nice feature.

                Well, your wrong from my point of view. I have hit MLB pitching before and when you see the ball well (like a beachball) and your locked in on a certain pitch (ala batting practice or just down right knowing what the guy on the hill is going to bring), the wait can seem like forever. I do agree somewhat that the rapid pressing fo A can steer some into thinking "Arcadey" (<-- is that even a word??) but give it a chance before you hate on it and "slam" it down.

                btw, nice post utexas. (GO ROCKETS! we need Rudy T. back!)

Now if you have a guy like Barry Bonds, who's power hitting is lets say 90%, he doesn't have too work as hard to get the power bar to full capacity.

                    We all know, that hitters sit on pitches, so thats all this is, now if it equals arcadey, call me pac man.

                    I would have to agree, the "Slam Zone" is guilty of only one thing so far...a bad name to a promising feature.

                        And this gives you "credentials?" Do you not realize anyone can pay $1000 for a fantasy camp experience where they can hit ML pitching? PLEASE. Your word is no better than mine.

                        Put it this way... if this were incorporated the SAME EXACT WAY in ESPN football... would it still be considered as "sim?" If Madden were to do this people would have a field day, screaming left and right this screams "ARCADE!"

                        Imagine you throw a deep pass into the Endzone, and it's a jump ball. Would you like a screen that pops up telling you to "Jam on the 'A' button" to fight for the catch? Then, it just becomes a matter of who can tap A the fastest to make the catch.... Does that really sound sim to you?

                        Like I mentioned before, if you can't turn it off, I'll steer clear. Name, advertising.. it means NOTHING. It's about the IMPLEMENTATION. (FWIW, everything you mention is the same exact way in MLB 2006, yet I'm wrong. )That's my impression now. If you're really interested, look me up in two months. I'll give you the final word then.

                          Put it this way... if this were incorporated the SAME EXACT WAY in ESPN football... would it still be considered as "sim?" If Madden were to do this people would have a field day, screaming left and right this screams "ARCADE!"

                          Imagine you throw a deep pass into the Endzone, and it's a jump ball. Would you like a screen that pops up telling you to "Jam on the 'A' button" to fight for the catch? Then, it just becomes a matter of who can tap A the fastest to make the catch.... Does that really sound sim to you?

                          Like I mentioned before, if you can't turn it off, I'll steer clear. Name, advertising.. it means NOTHING. It's about the IMPLEMENTATION. (FWIW, everything you mention is the same exact way in MLB 2006, yet I'm wrong. )That's my impression now. If you're really interested, look me up in two months. I'll give you the final word then.

Then, it just becomes a matter of who can tap A the fastest to make the catch.... Does that really sound sim to you?

                            Like I mentioned before, if you can't turn it off, I'll steer clear. Name, advertising.. it means NOTHING. It's about the IMPLEMENTATION. (FWIW, everything you mention is the same exact way in MLB 2006, yet I'm wrong. )That's my impression now. If you're really interested, look me up in two months. I'll give you the final word then.
                            I understand what you're saying, and you have valid points. We just come from 2 different schools of thought. I on one hand like to be a contributing factor as a end user, if its a combo of attributes and end user ability. You on the other hand if I can take the liberty in saying, think that because someone can mash a button repeatedly and be better than you at that is equivalent to arcade. This is I say I like the fact that end user coupled with attributes is the best of both worlds.

                            Using your jump ball theory, and I'm glad you used that one because the ESPN basketball game falls into this category. Early Boykins(end user A) will not out Jump Shaquille O'neal(end user b) no matter how fast he taps. Why, because of the mesh of end user ability and cpu attributes.
