amen to that, but i do admit, i sometimes wonder why some people do find the need to try pushing other's buttons over the preferences of a game.
Either way, i buy what i want, not what others want me to want.

Re: There's no justice in the world

I had a pretty good list of things that annoyed me in videos shown about this game, I'll try to find it in a second here.

Videos are so deceiving though. Once you get that controller in your hand, that's when you really know what the game is like.

[EDIT] Here, I'll quote my list:

Yes, there are some minor annoyances in this game, mostly cosmetic.

      1. Throws seem to be always on line.
      2. Throws look so weird, such an exaggerated overhand.
      3. Commentary wrong at points (double plays....I saw a diving catch by Swisher that Miller said was done by Crosby)
      4. Shotgun bat sound.
      5. No momentum...players can run in one direction, then immediately go the other without planting their foot.
      6. Bad ground ball pick to run animation...in one video Mark Bellhorn shows this off.

Some of these things just make the game seem so...so ugly. I think it ruins the whole experience a bit. So that's my "Gripes List" for 2k5.

*I do however think the gameplay will be stellar. Even last year's game (which I hated mostly) had great sliders and good batter and pitcher CPU AI. Also, those ESPN overlays and commentary sound and look absolutely stunning. ESPN NFL 2k5-esque!

Re: There's no justice in the world

It is a huge problem for me.

The most satisfying thing for me playing a game or watching a real game on TV is a perfectly hit extra base hit, the swing, the crack of the bat, the ball spliting the outfielders. It is baseball at its best and when the bats don't even look like bats, the batters spin 180 degrees around in their follow through, and they look like they are hitting the ball the same way despite where it is pitched. Opposite field hits look exactly the same as a pull swing. That is a huge problem for me. Players "glitching" over to a ball, players running through each other, players look like they are running in high heels, they instantly stop on a dime, etc.

I still ordered it though so I guess I'm not avoiding the game. I still hope I'll like it. For me, the screenshots look terrific, but once you get in the game, you are zommed out, it doesn't look so special and then the animations aren't fluid, the transitions are rough, I get a very awkward mechanical feel to the game.

after watching videos of all fo them i think mlb 2006 looks the best, then mvp, and probably espn, i just think the other two will probably be more realistic and more intuitive, but i have reserved all of them and will give them all a fair shot.

Re: There's no justice in the world

ESPN MLB 2K4 was by FAR the most realistic baseball game last year: the pitch counts were higher and more realistic, the true aim hitting model is much better then the simple "press down to hit a fly ball" hitting in MVP, the pitching was variable with slider changes and not always spot on like MVP, the hit variety was much better than any other baseball game EVER produced in the past.

I understand that many do not want a "boring" baseball simulation like High Heat 2004 or ESPN MLB 2K4, they want a game with eye candy - great graphics and "smooth animations. Well folks, smooth animations do not neccessairly mean a more realistic game, rather, it is things like realistic pitch counts, hitting model, pitching model, fielding, base running etc. that are most important. ESPN MLB 2K4 does not have the most beautiful graphics or the best animations, but it does the more important things much better than those other baseball games, High Heat 2004 the exception of course.

espn doesn't look realistic at all. atleast not in theory, if some of the goody gameplay yields realistic results great. but im concerned that hitting is purely timing based, the pitch system doesn't capture real pitching like mlb 2006's pitch meter. then you have the slam zone which im sure will screw with the statistics when you take it out.

how do pitchers get worse at throwing a certain pitch the more they throw it. makes no sense.

They take unrealistic approaches to give more realistic stats, but eventually the game doesn't play like real baseball.

Well, if you played ESPN last year, all of the same options are in this year. I mean, sure there is a timing-based option, but then there's also cursor and True-Aim.

Think of it this way... it prevents you from cheesing. If you had Zito's curveball or Pedro's changeup for every pitch, there wouldn't really be a way for you to stop pitching it if you get better with it.

Or, think of it this way... Kush didn't have a way for AI pitch recognization to get in this game (basically, if you threw a changeup enough, soon they would pick it up), so instead of giving the hitters an advantage, they take away the pitcher's advantage, so it's the same result.
