I'm also getting a lot of triples with these fielding and speed edits -- probably a bit too many, but they're nice to see. There won't be quite as many when I raise Fielding Speed to 50, which I plan to try out today.

Re: CPU able to lay down a bunt?!?!?
This may be off-subject for this thread, but have a few questions/observations about the game (just got it yesterday).
1. What is it with the hyperactive crowd? It distracts me to see them wildly celebrating a strike.
2. Is there any way to get the yellow arrow NOT to pop up? I guess it points in the direction of where the ball is hit.
3. I've noticed batters held to a single on hits that reach the wall in LCF and RCF. I think I'll try your fielding and speed edits.
4. Why do fielders go after the lead runner so often? Would an increase in individual speed ratings help?
5. Pitch counts seem a little low with BFJ&G's sliders.
baa7, I know you've been making changes to individual ratings (ala NFL 2K5). Please post the results of your experiments.
MLB 2K5 has the makings of a very good game. I like it. But it seems raw.Comment

Re: CPU able to lay down a bunt?!?!?
[QUOTE=baa7]I’m working with one team only at the moment, and playing them against themselves. I lowered everyone’s fielding ratings – everything, including Arm and Accuracy – to below 10. I did this with NFL 2K5, and just like that game, I’m seeing all sorts of new things: different game play and animations. No more 2B lasers to the 1B guy, and you can actually make out the throwing motions; 1B guy pulled off the bag on the throw from the SS, runner safe; 90% of the hits up the middle get by the P; two very close plays @ 1 from throws by the 3B guy, both outs by a whisker; a 6-4-2 DP attempt, runner just safe (I’ve also raised individual Speed ratings up).
Something else I started seeing: bunts down both lines. Before all this editing, I don’t believe I saw any bunts along the lines. They all headed straight towards the P… but that could be a coincidence.
And the slo-mo loopy web gems to the infielders aren’t as frequent, partly because the low Anticipation rating seems to freeze the guy for a moment, so they don’t react instantly.[QUOTE]
baa7,
Your insight is appreciated. You know, I remember reading one of those developer interviews at the espnvideogames site where the developer claimed that there were something like 1000 new animations in the game. And after playing a few days I was like, "where are they?" But after lowering anticipation and range (only) on the feilders (for 2 teams), I noticed about 3-4 new feilding animations after just one game! In one animation, the SS actually takes a step backwards to feild a hard ground ball.
So yeah, lowering some of the feilder ratings really helped with the animations, but I only lowered them by 10-15 points each. As for the pitchers, I lowered ev'ones anticipation and range to 10. Pitchers had some balls get past them in a realistic manner. Keep in mind that this was also with feilders speed boost off.
As far as the bunts, I saw one bunt down the line with the bigfn joe sliders, and with those same sliders (feilder aggressive at 50), looping catches seemed to be limited to about 1-2 every 3 innings. Still need to be limited to 3 or less per game, IMO.Unofficial OS Ambassador of "CPU vs. CPU"

1. if you're talking about playing with BTP cam, switch your visuals to "widescreen" in the Xbox settings menu, this distances you from the crowd and hoem plate (also makes pitching tougher.)
3. Using BFJ&G's sliders as my base, increased CPU runner agressiveness to 85...they do everything they're supposed to now, even go for two on those liners or hard balls hit to the wall.
5. Watch a few CPU vs. CPU games and you'll notice plenty walks/deep counts with those sliders (use the sliders mentioned at the end of their thread).
Also, for the CPU, lowered feiling aggressiveness and throwing agressiveness to 10 each...now they don't always make the web gem catch when they lunge or dive.Unofficial OS Ambassador of "CPU vs. CPU"

What did you have the ai bunt slider at when the cpu was bunting a lot. I play mostly national league games and the cpu never bunts. I set the ai bunt slider to 100, and they still never bunt.Comment

With throwing agressiveness at 10, with 2 outs and runner on 2nd I saw the 2nd baseman feild a ball hit to the right side, look to third (as if to see if he had time to get the runner headed from 2nd to third) then just hold the ball at the batter ran to first. He had time to throw the batter otu at first to end the inning but b/c he couldn't make the "lead" play, he decided to just hold the ball. So I bumbed the throwing agressiveness up and haven't seen this problem since.
I now have fielding agressiveness at 8 and throwing agressiveness at 15 and this is working well (for now).Unofficial OS Ambassador of "CPU vs. CPU"
