I can't wait I hope this roster project is for the PS3. I had enough of Betancourt already on the Royals, its time for Mike Moustakas!

I don't really understand how the EA Sports/NCAA lawsuit has anything to do with minor leaguers. They are being paid. No, they're not a part of the MLBPA but they are paid. Using that as an excuse for why they can't have their initials in the game is wrong.

Because to legally use someone's name/likeness in a game, you have to have their permission, and they are normally compensated for it. 2k has an agreement with the MLBPA (separate from their agreement with Major League Baseball) where they pay the MLBPA, and that is divied up to the players. So a player in the Minor Leagues is not a part of the MLBPA, so 2k would have to make an individual agreement with each one of those players in order to feature them in the game, which would likely be in violation of their agreement with the MLBPA.

The EA/NCAA lawsuit relates because that lawsuit is about the use of a likeness that is supposed to represent a player without actually using their name, and the fact that a player is not compensated for that. So even though EA has never used players names in the game, they have used "generic" players that were obviously intended to represent a certain player (a left handed, running QB for Florida wearing #10, for example). This is very similar to what 2k currently does (or has in the past), of players with the same number, height/weight, birthdays, initials, etc. So even though 2k isn't being sued over this right now, they have to be careful. Because if EA loses that lawsuit, and 2k continued to do the same thing with the minors in their game, they'd be setting themselves up for a lawsuit as well. If EA wins their suit, then I imagine we'll see better minor league rosters in baseball games in the future (and NCAA's rosters will improve as well). If EA loses, we'll likely head closer and closer to generic rosters for any games not affiliated with a players' union. Basically, right now, 2k can't make their minor league rosters too accurate until we know the result of the lawsuit against NCAA.

So while Minor League players do get paid, they do not get paid to have their name and likeness in a game. That is the problem, and the pending lawsuit is the reason 2k is having less accurate minor league rosters.

There's hardly any prospects this year, only guys i've found are Carlos Santana, Lars Anderson, Jason Heyward, Jesus Montero, Mike Stanton, i've looked hard also and no other prospects. Bummer.

also i wouldnt care about matching the initials as long as the player was accurate. i could figure it out, who is who by other means and they could name them whatever the hell they want. especially since there are restrictions, atleast they coulda put the top 100 in the game and made them the right age and position and made them look similar and they coulda named pedro alvarez tommy chong for all i care. it is disappointing to say the least.

                    NYY
(AAA) C Jeff McNurlin is Jesus Montero
                    WAS
                    (A) P Randall Sanders is Stephen Strasburg

                    ATL
(AAA) RF James Hunter is Jason Heyward
                    DET
(AAA) 2B Prince Snow is Scott Sizemore

ya... this is definatly WAY harder to find prospects in this game. I really tried to find Austin Jackson (DET) and Tim Beckham (TB) but I don't think they're in the game.. but it seems that the last name's initials match up, but not the first for the prospects that are in the game

Someone on the 2K forums said Tim Beckham is in the game under the fake name Tom Baker. He's listed as a FA instead of in Tampa's minor leagues.

Man we have a problem on our hands. I found Eric Hosmer (Royals) on the Pirates AAA as Ellis Houston, everything matched up. But I also found James Verne in the Rays AA team, who was Josh Vitters last year but the bdays dont match up. Also found Diory Jarvis in the Cubs AA, his initials match Desmond Jennings but his bday match Austin Jackson

this is so frustrating. i think im gonna try and start a franchise after the opening day roster comes out and with out any real minor leaguers. im not putting in the time and i dont trust other peoples created players so screw it.

Well, this is back on...even with 2K's roster restrictions. I am going to create 50 prospects using Baseball America's list for 2010. With the rest, I'll just try to find them in the game, but so far I've created Heyward, Strasburg, Ackley, Triunfel, Montero, Jennings and Stanton.

Any help with stances/windups would be appreciated...even ratings. I am trying to make them as realistic as I can.
