Re: My sliders: Try them out!(classic)

I had a tough game last night, lost 3-0 against the phils. I just got done playing an amazing game though. I was down by 2 in the top of the 9th, loaded the bases, ended up scoring 4 and going up by 2. In the bottom of the 9th I get the first out, and the next batter hits a solo HR< next batter singles, and then ryan howard hits into the double play. Won by 1 run and I was pretty excited............and then the game froze. Guess i'll have to play that one all over again.

These sliders are giving me some pretty good results, the only problem is that everything is hit to the center of the field. ground balls always go to the SS or 2B. Fly balls are usually to dead center or the the gaps. If theres a way to fix this, then these sliders will be as close to perfect as you can get (for me anyways).

Re: My sliders: Try them out!(classic)

My main problem, and this has nothing to do with the sliders, is a lack of offense. Im the Dodgers and we just cant score, we have had a few games where we put up some decent run totals but every single time thats happened my bullpen has blown the game anyways. Considering the Dodgers have zero power in that lineup, its tough trying to score all my runs by playing small ball, so far Im a lousy 10-18 and in last place, Eithier leads my team with 23 RBI's and is tied for the lead with Luis Gonzalez with 7 HR's, but my batting average as a team is horrible. Im now looking to deal Kent and Pierre and for some reason the Indians have 100% interest in trading me Hafner and a reliever named Mastney.

Are you using the L stick to aim your hits? I use it often left or right to hit to the opposite field and pull etc..? If I don't pull by using the stick I do see more balls to the middle of the field I guess.

I never use the L stick because im afraid im gonna start hitting too many HRs. If you can just pull the stick to the left or right without pushing it up or down and still have it affect where the ball is hit, I guess i'll try it.

I also use the L stick and push it right or left to influence whether I want to pull the ball or not and so far have only hit 1 homerun doing this and that was with Luis Gonzalez on a low and away pitch that barely got over the wall in left field. By doing this I also see more foul balls, this is the only thing I have found to get foul balls so far, hopefully next year they add this as a slider so we can tweak it to our liking.

I am seeing a ton of fouls using the L stick for sure!

Re: My sliders: Try them out!(classic)

Im trying to get a few more strikeouts and cant seem to decide what slider would be best to tweak, I dont need a huge change but Schmidt is averaging 5.59 k/9 and that seems extremely low considering he has made 8 starts, struckout 36 hitters over 58 innings. The settings I was thinking about changing the most were the take strike sliders, but I dont want them to become inept at the plate either. I currently have all the take strike sliders at 55, with your 50-60-35 settings are you seeing closer to realistic strikeouts for the user controlled pitcher? In all honesty I wasnt doing anything with Schmidt, last game against Cinncy he did strikeout 5 over 7 innings, but again that feels low, especially considering I have to count on striking out the pitcher twice a game to get those measly 5 strikeouts total. Any advice you could give would be appreciated.

EDIT- I should mention, whenever I bring in a reliever they seem to not have any problems striking guys out, Houston came in and struckout 2 in 1 inning of work and Saito struckout 1 in 1 inning of work so I finished with 8 strikeouts as a team which is close to the MLB norm I believe but I cant figure out why my relievers can strike guys out but guys like Schmidt cant. To give you an idea, here are the k/9 numbers for my starters.....

Schmidt (5.59 k/9)
Lowe (4.40 k/9)
Penny (5.00 k/9)
Wolf (8.31 k/9)
Billingsly (5.05 k/9)

As you can see, I can get strikeouts with Wolf and only him, consistently that is, he has 36 strikeouts over 39 innings pitched. Thanks for your help.

Well Ive come to the conclusion that it must just be Schmidt that isnt able to strike anyone out on this game, just pitched 5 innings with Lowe and he struckout 5, raising his k/9 to 5.74 and considering his k/9 last year in real life was 5.08, I would say it must be Schmidt. Its just kinda dissapointing since Schmidt's k/9 last year for the Giants was 7.61, and now its 5.59 in my game. I guess Im probably looking for a little too much realism in this regard though.

There probably wont be a slider set that you think is great anyways, in the end you will end up altering some settings to fit your skill level, all the sliders on here are only jumping off points, or starting points if you will, so you dont have to start from scratch, but thats all they are in the end, starting points. Personally I dont use his sliders, I use a mixture of Heelfan's borrowing a few ideas from his and am enjoying the outcome, I suggest you do the same thing.

These are obviously a combination of many others on here! I have taken a ton from Heel and just gradually worked them to my liking. The game right now is the best I have had it. I do use the Yankees so I am winning a little too much, but most of my games are decided very late in the games! The only thing I complain about is My clutch hitting! I seem to get many game winning or late clutch hits? Again the NYY may have something to do with this. My record with these currently is 22-11, I have played every game so far. I did not keep any box scores to show you but I have had very FEW blowouts by me and I have been blown out 1 or 2 times by the cpu too! I think I have seen everything and anything that may happen in a given baseball game which is the key for me with these. Anyways feedback is fine each of us are at different levels so I do not expect everyone to get the same great results I've had! This is with payoff pitch by the way.
Just wanted to let you know that after trying everybody's sliders including tweaks made by myself, I have been using yours for my season and have been getting great games. The only changes I made were zeros for all speed bursts and I believe my AI skill is @65, Con @50, Pow@55. Anyways, just wanted you to know I'm really loving this game thanks to your sliders.

Thanks, I too have been having awesome games with these. Right now though I have been struggling to win games, which is obviously not a bad thing since most sports games we end up just killin the cpu all the time. AI at 65 would make it so I would never win I think, so you must be a much better player than me! The cpu is just killing the ball as of late, I think I've lost 11 out of my last 14 games now! But the game's feel earned not cheap ai catch up or anything. I have to be more patient like I was early on in the season.

Hey nyr, are you starting to get beat alot with these? I have been getting beat on a regular basis lately. I think I have lost 14 out of my last 20 games or so? Crazy, I have zero room for error as of late. I am tied with Boston for first only because I started out so strong.

I actually have lost 4 in a row. Three pretty close and one I lost by about 6 runs. I played alot of exhibition games when I was deciding on sliders, and once I found yours I decided to take a team that I would never use in a season and start a season just to see how the games would go, and I was not dissapointed. The variety is great and now that i have my rosters set I'm ready to start my real season with the Jay's. Thanks again for all your hard work. I think the best part of your sliders has to be the pitching, you truly nailed it. It's great knowing that if I actually stay patient I can walk!!
