    SF's Custom-P Sliders

I thought I'd post these here as I mentioned the results I had with them in Joe's thread.

Basically set the sliders to Pro and then make the following adjustments:

    AI take strike overall: 65
    AI take strike ahead: 60
    AI take strike behind: 55

    AI take ball overall: 65
    AI take ball ahead: 55
    AI take ball behind: 60

AI Skill: 0 (the reason I put this at 0 is I have always felt this is more of a cheat for the CPU to get them hits. I notice that they hit a lot more gappers with this up high, and I see more hit variety with it at 0. I also think it makes them more realistic in terms of recognizing balls/strikes in that they will go after pitches out of the zone/get caught looking at balls in the zone)
    AI contact: 0

AI throw strikes(all three categories): 0

Everything else I left as is. I play with right stick pitching/hitting.

sliders seemed ok.....played Seattle vs. Texas, only 5 innings, but with Bedard pitching it seemed as though I had too many strikeouts, through 4 I had 5 strikeouts?

Its as though the cpu is missing too many pitches when its right down the plate?

anyway I won 2-0, hit a HR with Ibanez in the 4th

      SF,

Thanks for posting. I'm playing with a set of sliders very similar to this. I agree with you about the CPU Skill setting. Although I'm using 10 for AI Skill, it has had no effect on their offense. They still get extra base hits and hit the ball hard.

At this point, the only thing I need to figure out is the right mix of Human hitting sliders. I'm trying to find a way to reduce the number of dribblers hit without being able to hit too many HRs.

Move the CPU Contact up a bit until it's a realistic level for you.

Obviously each set of sliders will be different for each person's style, but I will just say two things:

          1) I wouldn't judge a set on one game, let alone 5 innings. I like the fact that the CPU will swing and miss...I don't want them hitting everything.

          2) Bedard getting 5 K's doesn't seem like too many for him at all.

Can't wait to give these a shot! I've played a couple of games on the default sliders and, man if the computer doesn't seem to reach out and hit everything!

SF, is it too easy to pitch on these? I'm not sure how accustomed you've gotten w. the RS pitching but I'm not sure I'd ever walk a batter on default pro pitching.

I have actually had more trouble pitching with these. I had been using the total control slider at 75 and while I still walked guys, I was throwing to many meatballs. I tried Joe's sliders and realized with it at 20 that the speed doesn't change on the "meter", it's just more forgiving so I can get a bad gesture score and it isn't a meatball, it's a ball, if that makes sense.

Yesterday I was cruising with John Smoltz, no hitter through 4 and a 5-0 lead. All the sudden I lose it...could not throw a spot on pitch to save myself. They weren't meatballs, but they were bad pitches (you know where it's red when you release it?). 3 hits, 2 walks, and a HB later it was 5-4 and I was shaking my head.

So you walk more with the slider lower? I ask because I have been playing with the slider around the mid 80s.

                    Hey SF,
Are you still getting "user" walks?
People are for reviews if it backs their argument, and against them when they don't.

Yes...and good pitch counts. Latest game was Braves(me) @ Nationals. Mike Hampton against Tyler Clippard. Hampton was cruising and I was up 7-0 going into the 9th. Hampton was at 105 pitches, but I left him out there to get the complete game shutout. He walks the lead off man, hits the next batter, and then gives up a double that brings in both runs.

In comes Manny Acosta. He gets a couple of outs before hitting another batter and is ejected. On comes Tyler Yates. Ground ball to 2nd, Kelly Johnson goes the short way to 2nd to try and end the game but Escobar drops the ball and everyone is safe.

Next hitter is Dmitri Young and I want to turn him around so I bring on Mike Gonzalez. Young hits it into the hole at SS...Escobar gets to it, but can't get a throw off and everyone is safe. It is now 7-5 with the bases loaded and still two out. Ryan Zimmerman is at the plate and I call on Rafael Soriano. The count gets to 2-2 before Zimmerman hits a fly ball to left field to end the ballgame and the Braves hold onto win 7-5.

                      ATL 7 6 2
                      WAS 5 9 0

                      Hampton went 8.0+ with 115 pitches, 8 K's, 2 BB's.

Clippard went 4 innings and left at around 80 pitches. They threw 132 and I threw 131. Their strike % was 53% while mine was 57%. I drew 6 walks, including 4 with Escobar.

I will add that I saw 3 new things in this game I haven't seen before:

                      1) In the 1st inning Mark Texieiria struck out on a pitch in the dirt and I took off for first. Lo Duca threw down to get him, but his throw was wild and past Young at 1st. Fortunately for the Nats, the 2B Felipe Lopez was backing up the throw and was able to fire to first to nip Tex by a step.

                      2) Ryan Zimmerman lined an opposite field single down the line...Jeff Francouer cut it off down the line and Zimmerman rounded the bag hard so I fired it to second...unfortunately he airmailed it into left field and Zimmerman continued onto 2nd with a 1B+error.

                      3) Kelly Johnson comes to the plate for his second plate appearance and I noticed that his pants were ripped from where he had slid earlier. I had to pause the game, go in and zoom in to realize that it was torn and you could see his sliding shorts...amazing.

I'm still liking these so far...again, I've only played 3 games but pitch counts have been great and the scores/games have been varied.

I have yet to see that one. I have CPU contact at 70. Don't you get way too many Ks with it at 0?

The most I've had in a game yet is 8 with Hampton and Cole Hamels. Seeing as most teams average between 7-8 K's per game, it's actually probably on the low side.

I had it at 50 and was striking out 8 or so consistently with John Maine. I'll have to take a look at my AI take sliders. That could be my problem.

                              SF,
just got done playing a game with your sliders....I actually threw a no-no with Brad Penny. I could NOT believe it,he had (iirc) 14 strike-outs. Although it was against the Pirates,I was still thrilled to get it.
I won the game 1-0 on a solo shot from Russell Martin. I was only able to generate 1 walk, but feel that my aggressiveness at the plate was alot of the problem.

I'm going to try these against a better team, and see how the outcome is. One thing I noticed though....the speed of the infield and outfield may need to come down a touch. It just seemed to me that they were getting to their spots to quickly.
