Re: The "OS Breakdown" of the 2K9 Slider Theory
I'm interested in the three at the top; Success, Contact and Power.
- Success, like last year, probably influences the "quality" of hits when the CPU makes contact
- Contact probably influences the computer's overall ability to make contact
- Power probably influences the computer's output of doubles, triples and homeruns.
Lowering contact, while not influencing when the CPU swings, will reduce the likelihood it connects. That in theory could lead to deeper at bats.Comment

Good discussion everyone, let's keep those ideas going. Need some coffee to get the brain working. I'll be back later..Comment

Re: The "OS Breakdown" of the 2K9 Slider Theory
i'd like to know who came up with the ridiculous slider definitions, i mean would it be so hard as to actually give a clue as to what they actually do without us having to guess? Hopefully Simballer or someother 2k dev can give us an explanation to these sliders in english.Comment

this is really the only hope we have to a accurate description of what the Hitting & Pitching Sliders actually doComment

Re: The "OS Breakdown" of the 2K9 Slider Theory
sask3m, I hoping that when the Online Manual is available(hopefully within days of release) we get a detailed description to every slider ala NBA 2K9:

Re: The "OS Breakdown" of the 2K9 Slider Theory
Agreed Jeff.
I've always thought that there were way too many sliders in MLB 2Kx. I'd like to see them simplify things like MVP did.
Hitting sliders:
Contact
Power
Swing frequency
Foul balls
Done. Simple and they are self explanatory.
Many of the sliders seem to be repetitive. Contact, Power, and Batting Success?
I'd really like to see what these sliders actually mean:
**Batting Pitch Influence
**Hold Timing Influence
**AI Pitch Selection Tendency
**AI Strike Zone Tendency/AI Pitch Zone Tendency....What in the hell is this? Seems repetitive.
It also seems that sliders that have to do with player ratings should be maxed out. Correct? IE Influence, Pitcher Composure Influence, Pitch Rating Influence. No?
I'd like the player ratings to have their maximum effectiveness with stick skills meaning less. Seems like maxing out these sliders will be the only way. If plate discipline or something like it is a player rating, then maybe it could resolve the swing frequency problem of the CPU.Comment

Re: The "OS Breakdown" of the 2K9 Slider Theory
given all the changes in this year's edition, ball park it for me Joe...how long after you get the game in your hands will you be able to work out some usable sliders ? no pressure....just wonderingComment

I'm gonna test the game hard for a couple of weeks before I put out a set of sliders.Comment

Re: The "OS Breakdown" of the 2K9 Slider Theory
People think they can just tweak it play 2 games and whala but it don't work this way as silders must be tested many time in different games to make a outcome of variety.
Like me Joe won't settle for just tuning down homers or making the game a pitchers game we want all in it, high run games, low run games, no homer games, multi homer games, pitchers gems and no hitters. We want baseball!
We also want decent amount of errors but fluid feilding.
We want resonable speed on the bags just as well on the feild.
We want to steal bases but want to get thrown out also.
We want pitch counts damn it!
Pick off has to be fair.
Contact must be made but not too dam easy.
Got to have Power but not Homer Happy Power.
I want to strike you out but make it harder to hit spots so I do draw more walks without have to try to walk you.
I know there is more but this is just an example of stuff that all has to fit together to make a good set work and it take time to do so.Comment

Re: The "OS Breakdown" of the 2K9 Slider Theory
Im so excited about getting the gam first off! The slider definitioons are pretty weak though... Im trying to compare them with 2k8's but there are alot of new ones. Why can't they just keep the same sliders and tweak on those year after year until its right?!?!?
I posted my sliders from last year on the forum, which were really good, do we know if you have the option of using swing-stick, and classic hitting again like last years? I personally used classic(couldn't do the swing stick, maybe cuz Im left handed haha).
And where are the sliders for fielding/base running etc...?
Really ned explanation of each slider so we know wha it does, instead of guessing. Will cut down time drastically on tweaking them to find the "perfect" set for you.Comment

Nothing seems to stand out about whether or not they will swing at or take more pitches in and out of the zone. It seems that often times the outcome of a hit is also semi-dependant on how well the pitcher executes a certain pitch (In other words if a pitcher perfectly executes a pitch, he is basically given a bonus on the pitch which make the hitter automatically less sucessful against it)...I hope none of this is true, because the actual pitch (speed, location, movement) would take care of all of that and no "bonus" is needed.
Also, suprised/dissapointed that there is no
Fielder throwing speed slider
