    Re: Owner Mode

Sounds like you're really enjoying playing. Are you on PS2 as well?

And I believe you missed my progression question if you have any information on that

How is the progression system and are you rewarded for trying to develop young players?

One of the things I enjoy most about franchise is developing the young players.

Ahh sorry about that, I must have skipped over the progression question. Well, I dont know what Kraw did, but players progress at a realistic rate (as opposed to the original 2005 rosters). For example, Ian Desmond (my SS) started the year at Single-A with 43 contact vs righties, 39 vs lefties (he then finished the last few months in Double-A). His stats for the year? He hit .323, 9 HR, 59 RBI, 31 2B, 3 3b, and 11 SB. His contact vs righties and lefties rose to 49 and 47 respectively. Based on those projections, he can probably be major league ready in 2 more years.

IMO, you wont find a more realistic progression system in any other baseball game. Who you have a coach will definitely influence how your players progress. I actually did a test last year where I had 2 5* potential guys on my roster (both fielders) and hired a crappy hitting coach for my minor league club. After 2 years, I was really happy to see that they hardly progressed despite putting up some respectable numbers (while other players progressed based on that coaches strength which was fielding). Fact is, you NEED to hire the right coach for what your trying to accomplish. Are you focused on speed? Defense? Power? Contact? Power pitching? etc. I am building a farm system based on speed and defense because my new stadium is going to be a pitchers park.

And I do play on the PS2 by the way.

Okay sweet that was exactly what I was hoping to hear. Funny thing is, I use the Nationals in my MLB The Show chise, and I love using them so much, I wanted to try them out in MVP 2005. That is sick about how the coaches have that kind of effect. I'm sorry now that I did not play this game a lot back when it first came out.

Did the rosters you have include Strasburg or did you just create him yourself? Also would you be able to point me in the direction for those rosters? I'm so stoked now after having read your responses this starts tonight when I get home from work lol

Also, progression didn't work as well with the default rosters?

Thanks a lot man for the answers, when I get mine off the ground, I'm going to share updates in here.

          Re: Owner Mode

For some reason the default rosters didn't have a proper progression system which made it almost impossible to delevop super stars. Well, what the fine people at mvp mods did was change alot of things such as: Uniforms (Rays and not devil rays), real time contracts, real time managers, and realistic stats (Juan Pierre finished with 0 HR and Chone Figgins had 4).

As far as Strasburg, I created him because I drafted a SP in the 1st round. After selecting my SP, I simply edited him to be more realistic. I also edited the entire league such as Leake, Heyward, etc. Fun times.

And as for your rosters, best bet is to find them at MVPmods.com or eamods.com. They have tons of rosters there that you can look through.

More updates comming soon. Hope you guys enjoy reading these.

            Re: Owner Mode

Just had a wild 2 games against the Baltimore Orioles.

Game 1 was Scott Olsen against Jeremie Gutherie. The game started off innocently enough, both pitchers cruising through 3 innings without allowing a run. However the flood gates opened. Nick Markakis hit a grand slam in the bottom of the 4th to make it an instant 4-0 (his AL leading 13th). Matt Wieters then followed with his 8th Jack of the year into the left field seats. So after a 5-0 lead, I decided to be more patient at the plate and make Gutherie throw pitches. After a leadoff walk, Guzman struck out looking on a 3-2 fastball. Kyle Blanks then promply ripped a single up the middle, nearly taking Gutheries head along with it. Josh Willingham comes up and belts at 3 run HR (his 3rd) into centerfield making it 5-3.

The Orioles responded with 9 runs in the bottom half the inning (they batted around twice) getting 12 hits, 3 walks, and 2 HR in the process. Despite losing 14-3 entering the ninth I had managed to score 8 runs on my own including 3 two-run shots by Ryan Zimmerman (his 6th), Josh Willingham (4th), and Ron Belliard (his 3rd). After loading the bases, Justin Maxwell grounded into a 4-6-3 double play to end the game.

            Final: 14-11 Orioles

Game 2 was more about pitching and defense. Jordan Zimmerman pitched 7 amazing innings striking out a career high 11 batters, walking 3, allowing 5 hits, and getting 2 double plays. Conversly, Jason Berken threw 6 innings of 3 hit ball, striking out 7 but walking 5 (which is why he was taken out). So the game is 0-0 at the top of the 9th. Wil Nieves leads off with a double down the right field line. After sacrificing him over to third, Adam Dunn hits a shot into dead center that fell just short of a 2 run jack (wind was blowing in 10 MPH) so pretty good small ball. After Chris Ray struck out Willingham to end the inning, I brought in my reliable Joel Hanrahan (7 of 8 in saves with 10.5 Ks/9 IP, .155 Opp Avg.).

Leadoff batter Brian Roberts steps up. I clocked him the leg with the very first pitch (button slipped). Adam Jones then comes up and smacks a single into right field, allowing Roberts to go to third easily. I decided to load the bases and pitch to Luke Scott. After a 8 pitch at-bat, I strike him out looking. Next comes Nolan Reimold. After falling behind 2-0, I come back and challenge him up and in. After fouling off a couple of tough pitches, he finally succombs to the tough right hander and strikes out looking. Next up is Matt Wieters. After a 2-2 count, he hits a weak grounder to 2nd. Ron Belliard fields it easily and lobbed it to first (SAFE!). I was like WTF? I looked at the replay and Adam Dunn had dropped the simple throw. Cesar Izturis comes to bat next and the very first pitch, I threw it to the backstop allowing the winning run to score. What a wild 2 games and my record falls to 21-23.

Financial standing: Im $2.3 million in the red with about 2 more away games left. Have a huge homestand next against the Mets and Phils so this is going to be crucial both from a financial standpoint as well as to gain ground in the standings.

              Re: Owner Mode

Reading all this made me miss how awesome owner mode was. I can't get into 2k10 so far because they won't patch the PC version for months and it's not cool knowing I could play six months and there's a good chance it'll crash on me. So I broke out MVP for PC again and found some 2005 rosters that include real players from MLB-A ball. I started up an Owner Mode with the Devil Rays at Red Stripe Stadium (It's beer! Hurray beer!)

I was always more of a dynasty mode player, probably because I was in high school and didn't have the patience to wait and make money and the ability to micromanage. Now I'm getting my MBA in sports management so this is right up my alley. I'm loving their roster, and they have some stars-in-waiting in the minors like Delmon Young, BJ Upton and Josh Hamilton. I play OOTP for my current day fix, so it's kind of nice going back to 2005 and seeing all today's stars develop over time in the game. This is a challenge too because the D'Rays have such a small budget to work with, I have to be super careful about how I spend my money. I'm loving it so far.

Hey guys i love the tread just like i do mvp baseball 2005 anyway i took over the Mariners and my first game i won 14-0 (i had it on rookie on the account i havnt played in over a year) anyway lol Joel Pineiro got the win allowing 6 hits, and had 5 strikeouts. I made aton of trades and it looks pretty much how the Mariners do now except the pitching and i just had to do it i signed Griffey. He is my favorite and i got rid of all my big contracts like Sexton and Boone anyway 1-0 going to pro difficulty.

Glad you are enjoying the game. You really must strategize in order to really compete in this game.

I am on my first 6 game winning streak since EVER with the Nationals and it feels pretty good. I dont know what happened, but I have been on a power surge. I have hit a total of 22 bombs during the 6 games (I had about 25 the first 40 games). I guess it was just fate because I have never had something like that happen. However, those darn Mets won't falter as they have won 7 in a row so I am still 3.5 GB. The good news is that I am leading the wild card by 1.5 games so now I am really shopping around for some veteran talent. I tried to acquire Chone Figgins from the Angels for Ian Desmond and Craig Stemmen and they rejected.

I then decided to go after Joel Zumaya to shore up the pen and offered Ian Desmond (hitting .303 3 HR 22 RBI in triple A), Justin Maxwell, and Ross Detwiler. Rejected! I have one more trick up my sleave. I am going to try and go after Heath Bell of the Padres. He is 1-1 with a 2.00 ERA and has 26 K's in 18 Innings so that would be major upgrade at the back end of the pen. I have a gut feeling that they are going to ask for 3 prospects. I don't know if I could pull the trigger on something like that because I am not sure I will be able to resign Bell during the off-season.

Things are looking good Nationtown thus far. Although I am still $3.6 million in the red, I have a good feeling I may end the season in the green. I will update either tomorrow or Thursday (am going to play at least 2 games for sure).

Hows everyone owner mode going? I lost my Nats franchise because my gf accidently threw it away when she was cleaning (trash guy already picked it up) . I have 6 cards but I made the fatal mistake of not saving it onto other cards. I still have rosters for them (end of 08) but it was depressing indeed.

I am gonna start another one up tonight with the San Diego Padres. I took a week off to see if I can see myself playing as another club. I will try them tonight and keep you guys updated.

You should try mvpmods.com or eamods.com. I think they were updated last year, but not this year (or so I think). I couldn't go through with the Padres. I need my Nats back. I am thinking of starting over but I wouldn't feel right haha. Im playing MLB 10 the show right now until I can go back. I may do the Nats again, but will take a different approach in regards to udating.
