    Re: Owner Mode

I'm back with a mini-update. I haven't played a game yet, after my last post yesterday my 3 yr old son wanted me to play outside with him, and this is to kind of answer Canes5 questions as far as what I CHOSE to do in my OM. I'm using the large budget ($5,000,000) b/c I open the season on the road (6 games in 7days) and I want to make sure I have a financial cushion until I make it home. I purchased the popcorn(700,000), peanut(800,000), and soda(1,000,000) vendors as well as prospect place(500,000) for my store venue. My promotional days are Apr 11 against TOR (5,000 Mag Schedule cost $10,000), Apr 12 against TOR (4,000 T-shirts cost $40,000), and Apr 26 against CWS (5,000 T-shirts cost $50,000) leaving me with $1,900,000 as of Apr 3. All these games are 2/10 impact and I'm also contemplating lowering my ticket prices $5-10.

Canes5 to answer your question, you have to do what feels comfortable to you. It's like using sliders, just because I find Dukes' works for me doesn't mean they will work for everyone. It's how you choose to play the game.

Forgive me for the long post, I just wanted to put this out there for everyone, not just Canes5, who have questions about OM. There's no perfect setup, it's all in how you play the game!

I don't think it's too unfair because I miss a lot of my pitches anyway due to the green part on the pitch meter being almost non existant. I also don't go back to the center, I usually have a spot picked out and I'll place it there to my best ability and pitch it, I won't work on getting it there 100%.

I may try it out sometime and see if it will cause me to throw more balls, and if it does I'll probably mess the user fatigue slider because the way it's set up now is so that my pitchers won't pitch the whole game easily because they don't throw a ton of pitches.

        Re: Owner Mode

I just completed my first game in OM and if the rest of the year is like this game, then I'm going to have a blast!

        Boxscore:

        R H E
        Athletics------------------- 1 7 0
        Orioles---------------------- 2 13 2

Zito started the game for me, he pitched well for me through 6 2/3 innings before giving up a HR. I know, I left him in too long. Just remember this is my first full game (I only played a couple of innings in quick play to try out Dukes' sliders) since 2005. I let Zito finish the inning (I figured he couldn't do any more damage) then brought in Witasick to start the 8th. Before I go on, I failed to mention that I scored my one and only run in the top of the 7th on a RBI double hit by Jason Kendall. Ok, Witasick went 3 innings (yes we went extra innings) only giving up one hit to end the 10th. I brought in Saarloos, figuring since he was a spot starter he could endure longer than a reliever. Well, he went 3 2/3 innings and on a one ball / two strike count on Sammy Sosa, I sat up to throw my changeup away, but I didn't stop the meter in the green and the ball floated right down broadway! Well, you can guess what happened next. The ball ended up going over the right center field wall for the win. From the excitement stand point, it was great! I just wish I was on the winning end of this score. Oh well, there's still 160 something games left.

Sounds like it was a great game, too bad you didn't win though. The 2005 A's are a fun team to play with IMO. I played about a half a season with them in this game last year, and I had a blast with them. Good luck with the rest of the season.

Yeah, they are fun to use. I'm thinking, though, I may run into a money problem. The team salary is a little over $78,000,000 with Eric Chavez weighing in at 6 years, 10,000,000+. I'm contemplating trading him to the Mets for David Wright (both are top 100 prospects, but Wright is both cheaper and younger) and maybe a minor league pitcher. I know I'm only one game in to my OM, but if I can pull the trigger now on a trade like that I know it will help me financially down the road.

Thanks for the input. I'm just trying to get a feel as to what others do. I usually will schedule promotional days on opening day or lower impact games that I want more fans to attend. And I usually buy a ton of vendors.

I'm not 100% sure with what I bought, but I started with a medium budget, and bought as many vendors as I could along with a jersey/item store. I waited until I started the season until I scheduled promo days, when I had a few home games and had some money avaliable I scheduled all my promo days for low impact games.

Well, I was hoping to get in a couple of games today and do an update tonight, but tragedy has struck. Sometime yesterday or last night my son erased the hard drive on my x-box. All of my game saves are gone! At least I think it was my son, it could of been my wife, I know it wasn't my daughter she's only one and likes to play with balls of yarn. I had hoped that I had saved my OM on my memory card with the rosters, but no such luck! When I said something about it to my wife, Miss Bight-side, she said "well now you can start a new game and use Tampa Bay." So, I'm starting a new OM, using the Rays (maybe it was my wife who erased my hard drive) and hopefully I'll have an update later.

Ouch, sorry to hear that. I've had that happen to me to a lesser degree, but not my whole hard drive. I used to back up my some of my important saves on my old computer but after that one broke I haven't been able to due to action replay not working on this computer.

Well, good luck with your new owner mode.

hitstreak, I got the card back and for 2 hours was hard at work adjusting rosters. My main concern was the Marlins as thats the team i will finally be starting my owner mode with . I made a few attribute adjustments to guys I knew should be better in the minors, as well as guys I knew should be worse. After a few games testing duke's sliders, I will be ready for opening day so here's the line-up a little early...

                      3B-Emilio Bonifacio
                      CF-Cameron Maybin
                      SS-Hanley Ramirez
                      1B-Jorge Cantu
                      2B-Dan Uggla
                      RF-Jeremy Hermida
                      LF-Cody Ross
                      C-John Baker

                      Notable Bench Players:
                      C-Ronny Paulino
                      3B-Chris Coughlan
                      OF-Alfredo Amezaga

                      SP-Josh Johnson RHP
                      SP-Ricky Nolasco RHP
                      SP-Chris Volstad RHP
                      SP-Anibal Sanchez RHP
SP-Andrew Miller LHP (considering swapping Sanchez and Miller to add a lefty a little higher in the rotation...thoughts?)

In the pen I have reliable arms in Kiko Calero and Leo Nunez and the closer, for the time being, will be Matt Lindstrom.

My best minor league prospects look like Sean West (AA) and Gaby Sanchez (AAA).

Surprisingly my team is ranked 29th. While I didn't expect a great team by any means, I find it interesting that teams like Washington, Pittsburgh, Kansas City, and Baltimore can have better teams.

Well guys, heres to a good season. Sorry about the long post.

Hey Canes, great to see you starting your OM. Personally, I think you should move your lefty up just to break-up all those righties. Good luck on your upcoming season and keep us informed on how everything goes!

Ya I think thats the right move. I can't have 4 righties in a row.

Hey Canes, sorry about some of the teams being off. I was looking through them the other day and a few were off. However, I adjusted the attributes based on 3 yr splits. You wont see Juan Pierre hitting 10 bombs like he does on default attributes. I only have 5 with Guzma through 100 games (which is about realistic). Anyways, I am sorry for some of the mishaps.

Well guys, I have played game 100 today and my record is 45-55. Today, Jason Bergmann had a game of a lifetime. Not only did he pitch my teams first complete game shutout of the season, but he had all my RBI's (3). Take a look at his line:
                            9 IP, 4 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 6 K's
                            2-3, 2B, 1B, SB, 3 RBI's (was part of a successful double steal).

I have never had such a game with a pitcher. Bergmann came into the game 1-7 with an ERA of 7.03. I was contemplating sending him out to AAA to get his act together. At the very last moment, I decided to give him 1 more chance considering many of my starters were struggling and have very little depth out in the minors. Well, Bergmann has just earned himself 2-3 more chances . What a game folks.

                            MLB News:
Albert Pujols is tearing the hell out of the ball. He is leading the majors by far in Avg. (.370) has 25 HRs (1 behind Adrian Gonzalez) and has 70 RBI's (Gonzalez leads the league with 87). Too bad he missed about 12 games due to injury.

Cincinatti's Willy Tavarez is having a pretty solid season. He is hitting .303 with 1 HR and 26 RBI's. He leads the National League with 35 SB and has scored 55 runs. Oh, can't forget his NL leading 7 triples.

NY Mets SP Johan Santana is the first pitcher in the Majors to hit 150 K's. He is on pace for a whopping 233 Strikeouts.

                            Minor League News:
Shairon Martis is putting together a solid season. He is 6-8 but has an ERA of 3.56. He is striking out 7.92/9 IP.

Travis Snyder is leading all minors in HR for the Blue Jays with 22. Who is in second? Thats right, Kyle Blanks for Harrisburg with 21

Jason Repko is tearing up the Minors hitting an astounding .396 with 11 HR, 39 RBI's and has stolen 20 bases. Looks like he is increasing his value.

First game of the year against the Braves was a good one.

                              Braves 3 8 0
                              Marlins 2 6 0

Cody Ross hit his first HR of the year. Josh Johnson didn't pitch horrible he just blew up in the 3rd allowin 3 and then settled down for the next 2 innings. My pen looked great with Hayden Penn and Kiko Calero pitching 4 scoreless innings but I'm striking out way too much. Gotta get my timing back. In the bottom of the 9th, Jermey Hermida hit a ball 408 feet, but of course to center field. Not to mention I grounded out with the bases loaded with Hanley earlier, and also hit a HR just foul with Uggla.

Daily revenue was $632,956 ($65,027 Media) and expenses were $344,261 giving me an income of $288,695.

Does anyone know if its easier/harder to bat camera angle 4 instead of 1? Just wonderind because I'm on 1 and Tim Hudson and co. struck me out 11 times.

This season is becoming really fun. I am 15 GB from the Mets and 12 from the Braves. Deadline is in a few days. There have been trades in the majors, but will update later.

Hey Hitstreak, congrats on reaching game 100. Wow, Bergmann really came through for you. It's funny how when you're just about to give up on someone, they come through for you in a grand style.

Canes, sounds like you had a great opening day, but don't you just hate how a pitcher can have a great game and still lose the game for you in one inning. What does your payroll look like? Anything like RL?

Again, Hitstreak, I have to tip my hat to you for starting this thread. It's entertaining to read, with several people contributing their OM experiences also.

I'll post my first two games with the Rays later today. Just to let everyone know, though, I set the starting bank at minimum since the first nine games I play are home games and of course I'm playing the games in Tropicana Stadium untill the new stadium is completed.
