Ok...here's a full update of my second season:

On July 6th, I am 51-32...three games behind the first-place Chicago White Sox. While my team is ranked 1st in the league in hitting, I am 28th in the league on the mound.

I have made a couple of transactions over the course of the season. The first trade sent OF Coco Crisp to the Cubs for SP Edwin Jackson. In another cost-cutting move, I traded SP Roy Halladay to San Diego for Chin-Hui Tsao and Jeff Francoeur.

As I mentioned before, Halladay was disappointing in both my first season and then continued to struggle in the first half of 2006. He missed 60 games this year due to injury and struggled when healthy with an ERA over 6. Along with those underwhelming stats, he also commanded a large contract. In shipping him to the Padres, I dumped about $8 million in payroll.

Despite saving some big-time money, I kinda feel like I cheated myself a bit in the trade. I was eager to get rid of his contract and needed another young bat after Crisp's departure (as well as Grady Sizemore's several stints on the DL), plus a pitcher to fill in for Halladay.

Francoeur is only 22 at this point in the game and is hitting an incredible .751 in AAA. Tsao has shown a bit more consistency than Halladay at this point in the year, with a 3-7 record that doesn't reflect his solid 3.74 ERA. Plus, he's only 25 and is making $300,000 this season.

As far as financials go, I am $2.72 million in the hole...the trades have helped lower my payroll and being in the playoff hunt has increased game impacts.
Hey Arlington, thank you for the kind words. This has been a blast thus far. I think you may have gotten ripped off in the Roy Halladay deal a bit like you mentioned. You could have gotten a proven veteran and 2 five star prospects imo. However, it was a good idea that you were able to shed payroll. Hopefully it doesn't effect your team during the playoff push. Good luck to you

I will update later tonight or tomorrow morning. I just started my game right now. Long day at work

I do think I could have done more in the trade, but since the deal, I moved into 1st & Tsao has stabilized the rotation. AJ Burnett has 15 wins and Cliff Lee is also dominating hitters. Hopefully they can keep it up during the playoff push.

        Re: Owner Mode

Scott Olsen provided me with a much needed lift. Not only did he pitch into the 8th for the 3rd time in his last 5 starts, but drove in a run as well. Ian Snell had a dismal start for them, not even finishing 1 inning. He walked 6 in the first! allowed 3 hits and hit one en route of a 7 run first inning. From there, Scott Olsen was dialed in pitching 7 1/3 innings, allowing 7 hits, 3 ER, 3 BB, and 6 strikeouts. He has been my ace this season going 6-5 with an ERA of a much respectable 4.03. I truly believe he has the makeup to win 12-15 games for me this season.

In other news around the division, Ben Sheets has now logged in his 3rd start of the season and has won all 3, despite an ERA of 4.76 so he is getting some run support. I am 30-42 this season and am 16 GB from the Mets so this is not going to look good at all. Even I if win 15 out of my next 20, I will only gain a few games in the standings. The Phillies are having a poor season as well, thanks in part to their injury depleted offense of Jayson Werth, Pedro Feliz, and Ryan Howard. There are nowhere near as bad as I am, but being 10 games out is going to be tough without that trio in the lineup. The Marlins are right there in the celler with me, being 12.5 GB from the Mets. They are a much better club than mine, and have such a promising rotation that it is really making me wonder whether I should draft a SP prospect early on to build a foundation that will include Zimmerman, Olsen, Detwiler, and even Shairon Martis.

9 more games before I will post statistics for my team and some league leaders.

        Hope you enjoyed reading.

            Re: Owner Mode

After another solid chunk of simming/managing/playing last night, I have reached the end of the 2006 regular season.

The Royals held off a ferocious charge by the White Sox to capture the AL Central division championship with a 109-53 record - not bad for a team with a $71 million payroll!

The White Sox took the Wild Card, finishing 5 games off the pace. Therefore, two teams in my division finished with 100+ wins.

From my team, Ichiro won the AL MVP, Troy Percival won the Rolaids Reliever of the Year Award and Mark Teixiera, Chone Figgins and Ichiro won Silver Slugger honors.

In the minors, my AAA and AA teams also qualified for the postseason, but were eliminated in the first round.

In the ALDS, the Royals squared off against the Oakland A's. After splitting the first four games, a decisive game 5 held at K.C.'s George Brett Stadium went in favor of the home team. Thus, the Royals advance to face none-other than division rival Chicago in the ALCS.

As far as financials are concerned, the lead-up to the playoffs and actual playoff games are bringing in huge money. I have been pulling in more than $1 million in income (after expenses are taken out) each game. I have added the first seating upgrade, more stores and vendors, and the level 2 home run celebration all during the playoff push.

I will add a kind-of ALCS preview and wrap-up later today/tomorrow once I get home after work.

Nice job Arlington, not bad for a $71 million payroll. That is a pretty solid season right there. Are you going to increase payroll next season? Keep us updated on your postseason. Hopefully, you can bring home the trophy.

Just played a game against the Blue Jays and had absolutely no chance against Roy Halladay. He was dialed in today, pitching his major league leading 4 CG (whats new?), 2nd shutout, and 11th win of the season. The guy was just plain filthy. I was only able to muster a measly 4 hits off of him all night, 2 of which were infield singles and struck out 11 times! Just a true talent (both in game and real life )

A look at Halladay in depth:

4 CG- On pace for 9
2 Shutouts- On pace for 4
              93 K's- On pace for 233
11 Wins- On pace for 23
              IP- 109 1/3- On pace for 241

I will tell you this much. Thank god my Nats are not in the AL east.

                Re: Owner Mode

Alright guys, just finished playing another game today agsinst the almighty Blue Jays. Today was a pitching duel between Dustin McGowan and recently called up Daniel Cabrera. Cabrera, who has the teams only 2 CG's, pitched very well after re-discovering his potential out in AAA (went 1-1 with an ERA of 4.22 in 5 starts striking out 29).

I used a new strategy with Daniel Cabrera. I was commited to pitching him 5 full innings only! Not because I didn't have faith in his stuff, but because I was going to go all out during those 5 innings. The strategy paid off as I struck out 10, walked 2, gave up an earned run, all while giving up 3 hits. He was warped by the 5th, but that was my strategy all along. He can typically go 6-7 before really tiring, but I tried to harness his stuff for the full 5 instead of trying to do too much over 6-7 innings. The down side is that I did lose 4-2 and am now 30-44 on the season. I am approaching the halfway point now and am on pace to lose 96 games this season (hey, I'm doing better than the real Nationals ).

I officially placed 1B Nick Johnson on the trading block and Ryan Zimmerman will begin a rehab assignment out in A in about a week. Adam Dunn is out for about another month and a half and will most likely not be ready until late September. Collin Balester was activated from the 15 day DL and will throw 2 innings out in A ball. I plan to give him 5 starts in the Minors to stretch him out over 5-6 innings. I will start him off slowly. Although I am most likely out of playoff contention, I will begin my rebuilding faze now ladies and gentlemen.

A new era begins in Washington.

                Hope you enjoyed reading.

First and foremost, I would like to thank those who have written me PM's to express their joy in reading my franchise updates. I love comming home from work, telling my GF how much I love her (yea, cheesy I know), and getting in a game.

Well, I was able to take a game from the Blue Jays. Jordan Zimmerman was on the hill tonight, but didnt have his best stuff today. Adam Lind hit a HR and 2B and drove in 4 out of the Jay's 6 runs. Pacing the offense for the Nationals was Christian Guzman. Guzman, who is hitting .308 comming in, was in a massive slump in which he had 10 hits in his last 55 ABs. Not only did he launch his 3rd homer of the year (a 3 run shot that hit the pole in right), but he doubled in a pair as well. He finished the night 4-5 with 5 RBI's. Zimmerman had a serviceable start, going 5 1/3 innings, allowing 8 hits, 5 earned runs, 2 BB, and 4 K's. He didn't get the win, but it was a good start for a rookie and number 5 starter. He still hasn't lost in his 5 starts (2-0 5.33 ERA). For some reason, my bats come alive when he is on the mound. Jesus Flores, hitting .202, finally connected after going homerless in his last 133 AB's. He ended the night going 2-3 with a walk and 3 RBI's.

Next series I will face the Pirates again! I am out for them this time. Not only did I lost 2 of 3 to them, but Lannan was hurt for 2 days. McLouth must of upper cutted him in the jaw..lol

Alright guys, I may not get a game in until Friday night because I am going to take my GF to the beach tomorrow after work (have a day off friday) and spend some time over there. Leave feedback so I can read and respond from my phone

                  Hope you enjoyed reading.

Hey guys I've been reading your threads and it seems like you guys are having fun. My 360 just got sent in for the red ring and I decided to break out mvp 05 again and realized why I loved it so much. I really want to start a new owner mode with the 09 rosters for my florida marlins. I know you guys said you need an action replay. I found them online for $15. Is there any way I can buy them from a store or only online? Also, would you be able to hook me up with the code or show me where to download these rosters? Thanks guys and good luck on your dynasties.

One more question. How accurate are the minors rosters because I have a cousin in AAA New Orleans and wanted to know if he'll be in there. I'm guessing yes since he got called up at the end of last year for the marlins.

I'm still playing my owner mode, it's just on a halt for a little bit. I've been messing around with the sliders, because I had changed them during the season because it got too easy, and I didn't think of it at first but my terrible hitting started right when I changed the sliders. I'll resume it once I get realistic results again.

You can buy action replays at the store, well at least you could a few years ago I'm not sure if they still do anymore. I got mine at best buy a few years ago. Do you have regular xbox? If you do, here's a link to the download. You have to register to download it though.

The rosters are very accurate, they have all real minor leaguers in it. If you tell me your cousins name I can tell you if he is on the roster or not(which I'd imagine he is if he is still playing for the AAA team).

                          Re: Owner Mode

Well, folks, my 2006 season came to an end after losing a seven-game series to the Chicago White Sox. After I won the first two games of the series, the White Sox came back and won the next three. I won the first game back in KC to force a Game 7.

The Sox put Mark Mulder on the mound in Game 7, opposite 22-game winner AJ Burnett. Chicago jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first and never looked back. After the Sox extended their lead to three in the second inning, Clint Barmes smacked a homer to left to put me on the board. However, that was the only run I'd score. Chicago added a couple insurance runs and won the game 5-1.

So it was a slightly disappointing end to the season, but I did finish with a $2 million profit after adding some stadium upgrades and a store. And I did go on to resign most of my potential free agents. With all of the positions filled and some of my prospects ready for the bigs, I only signed free agents that filled minor league holes.

I am now in Spring Training and will be giving guys like Francoeur a shot to make the club. Pitching is still my one area of concern, since Burnett and Cliff Lee did most of the work for my team last year. Edwin Jackson, who's only 23, must step up, as well as Chin-Hui Tsao and Jeremy Affeldt. If they can't, I will be looking to move a prospect or two for some pitching.

My cousin's name is Gaby Sanchez. He plays 1st base at AAA in the Marlins organization which is New Orleans now, but was Albuquerque in 2005. I have a ps2, so I'll probably buy an action replay online.

Any help on rosters, jerseys, stadiums, whatever else you guys got for ps2 would be much appreciated.

Any help on rosters, jerseys, stadiums, whatever else you guys got for ps2 would be much appreciated.
I'm not sure if they have updated ps2 rosters or not. I know for a while they just converted the updated rosters to xbox and not ps2, but I'll look around the site and see if they updated the ps2 rosters.

Also, Gaby Sanchez is in AAA for the Marlins in the rosters.

Alright guys, I'mmmm bbaaacccccckkkkkkk..lol..I hate the Dodgers!

Ok, today I just played the Pirates and was able to hold them off to a 5-3 victory. On the hill for them was Zach Duke. He is off to a rather slow start this season. Comming into the game, he is 3-6 with an ERA of 5.26 and has allowed a mind boggling 20 HR in just 12 starts! Ian Snell is a much distant 2nd with 12. Alex Cintron, who hasn't homered in a few weeks, launched a towering fly over the center field fence for his 5th this season. I am really pleased with my bullpen. According to my spreadsheet, my bullpen ERA is a stagerring 6.01 while my starters possess a more respectable 4.33 ERA. Joel Hanrahan, who has converted his last 6, dominated the 9th striking out Nyjer Morgan, Nate McLouth, and Freddy Sanchez to end the game. The guy was lights out. On the mound for me was spot starter Jason Bergmann. He had his best start of the year, going 6 full innings, allowing 2 ER, 7 hits, 3 BB, and 2K's.

                                Injury News
Ryan Zimmerman will begin a rehab assignments in a couple of days and will look to return to the lineup in 2 weeks.

Collin Balester completed his first start since comming of a sore elbow. He pitched 2 innings, allowing 1 hit, 1 BB, and 2 K's. I will give him one more start out in A ball before I promote him to AA ball and stretch him out a little bit more.

Adam Dunn, out until late August, is still owed about $6 million for the rest of the year. The plan was to ship him out if I were out of contention before being hurt. I will update when August comes around.

Josh Willingham is out of the season with a torn shoulder and should be ready for spring training. Ironically, Willingham spent 17 days on the DL with a sore shoulder so it must have been pretty bad.

                                Nick Johnson Update
I wasn't able to find any interest for 1B Nick Johnson. My first objective was to look for teams who had an injured 1B and needed to add someone who can pop about 10 Hr the rest of the way. I tried looking into the Angles system because Morales was hitting .222 with only 6 Hr. I offered Johnson for Ryan Budde and Nick Adenhart (will keep him in this game) but the Angels refused to part with their pitching prospect. My backup plan will be to offer Johnson to a team that needs depth rather than a starter and look for more secondtier prospects. I can use an upgrade at C. Although Flores is still young, I don't have too much depth after him. I would be happy to dump Johnson's payroll. I will keep you guys updated later today.
