Re: Player development and other gems...analyzing the .big files (PC)

I'm guessing that EA has set it up so that players peak improve until 31 then decline until 44 or something like that? Thats why the two ages are listed? Would be a shame though if it was fixed to those two ages (especially since players peak around 27 and retire long before 44). This may also be why so many players last so long? Perhaps we can increase the atrophy rate for older players to eliminate the 46 year old Barry Bonds hitting 50 home runs.

Are the variables that determine a pitcher's control in here as well? If so, then we could not only create a roster with pitchers with vastly reduced control (and thus lead to more walks) but also generate prospects with the same parameters. Of course that might result in tons of walks for simulated games...

Anyway, hopefully this will lead to something and I might be willing to fire up MVP at some point in the future. Too bad for the non-PC crowd though.

Based on my observations, players seem to pick a random number between the min/max for the next age barrier/star rating, and progress there at a set rate. It should be no trouble to eliminate long-lasting players, we just have to either increase their regression from 31-45, or simply increase the retirement rate for players 37-44, also an easy task.

I've made a few changes to rookie.big and progress.big, and posted them in mod form at BBSC.

I'm going to try out your progress files, from what you have posted about them they look great. I wish I could tweak these. While I may understand the format and the math, unfortunately my knowledge of baseball isn't that great.

Too bad this is only for the PC. Makes our 50 bucks we spent on the xbox version dead.

I've been inspired to begin playing with the .big files as well. However, I was wondering if someone could tell me how to save my changes so that I can test them in game? I've been trying to just "save as.." a file with the .big extension after making very simplistic edits in Notepad (I'm just testing right now), but this causes dynasty mode to crash.

                        Thanks to everyone in advance!
