      Season Averages
      Ichiro - .340 avg 10-HR 62-RBI 115-R 48-BB 63-K 41-SB .385-OBP .446-SLG 236-H 694-AB

      Gwynn - .338 avg 9-HR 76-RBI 92-R 52-BB 29-K 21-SB .388-OBP .459-SLG 209-H 617-AB

      Differences - .002 [Ichiro] 1-HR [Ichiro] 14-RBI [Gwynn] 23-R [Ichiro] 4-BB [Gwynn] 34-K [Gwynn-less Ks than Ichiro] 20-SB [Ichiro] .003-OBP [Gwynn] .013-SLG [Gwynn] 27-H [Ichiro] 77-AB [Ichiro]

      Ichiro: 6
      Gwynn: 5

Now, don't think these are the whole story. Both are great players and I think a lot of it will come down the line if you really wanted to duke it out.

Did you just try to compare season averages between a guy who's only been here for a few years, and arrived in his prime to a player who has 20 seasons, including his formative and post-prime years?

There's no comparison. Ichiro's a very very good hitter, Gwynn is probably the greatest pure hitter of my generation. Not to mention he put up most of those numbers when the pitching was a lot deeper and a lot more prevalent.

Re: Tony Gwynn vs Ichiro Suzuki. Who's the better pure hitter

When I look at both hitters, I compared both Gwynn's and Ichiro's numbers at the same age(s) - 27,28,29,30. Of course, this doesn't tell the entire story or even come close to it for that matter, but I thought it was interesting nonetheless...

          Ichiro
          27 - .350 BA/.381 OBP/.457 SLG
          28 - .321/.388/.425
          29 - .312/.352/.436
          30 - .372/.414/.455

          AVG - .338/.383/.443

          Gwynn
          27 - .370/.447/.511
          28 - .313/.373/.415
          29 - .336/.389/.424
          30 - .309/.357/.415

          AVG - .332/.392/.442

Maybe when Ichiro gets his career totals of walks higher than strikeouts... aside from that I'd still choose Gwynn (biased or not).

No...I just took their seasonal averages. Take it for just that. Averages.

In my post before, I asked if you are trying to compare an athlete whose career numbers are all done to a person still in their prime. I don't think it makes sense to compare them because it's not a fair comparison.

The poster above used their averages at their same respective ages. This gives us a better idea of how their numbers look in their prime years. Also they are playing in two totally different style of leagues. I don't think you can compare the two because it's too hard to compare across generations.

Don't think I'm trying to cause problems, I just wanted to show some meaningless stats. They don't tell the whole story.
