Trade Rumors Thread

Well we're 38 days away from the trade deadline.... and I thought it would be fun/interesting to list some of the trade rumors you've heard surrounding your team or any other team.

There's been a lot of rumors here in NY with the Yankees struggling so I'll mention a few.

I've heard prospects 21 yr old 3B/1B Eric Duncan and 19 yr old SP Phillip Hughes to Oakland for Mark Kotsay and possibl Barry Zito if we throw in a high ceiling prospect and/or Cano or Wang. (Although Cashman has repeatedly said Wand and Cano are staying put)

I've also heard Tom Gordon and a prospect to the Mets for Mike Cameron but I don't see that happening because I don't think the Mets feel like helping out the Yankees, although they do need bullpen help.

Away from NY... on the radio I heard a very intriguing rumor involing Soriano to the Cubs for Kerry Wood which would make sense for both teams.

    Re: Trade Rumors Thread

From TSN.ca's Between the Lines collumn:

    AROUND THE MAJORS
    - Blue Jays pitchers could be available, according to the Toronto Sun. The paper names lefties Ted Lilly and closer Miguel Batista as possible commodities to be moved. Lilly apparently has four teams in pursuit, including Atlanta, Minnesota and the Chicago White Sox. Blue Jays GM J.P. Ricciardi said, in no uncertain terms, that the Jays will not be dealing Lilly.

    - Several reports out of Chicago have the Cubs interested in Giants RF Moises Alou or demoted Reds RF Austin Kearns, though the Cubs deny any talks have taken place.

- The New York Post discusses the Yankees interest in A's CF Mark Kotsay, also mentioning the Cubs as potential suitors.

    - The Baltimore Sun says the Orioles have shown some interest in Rockies CF Preston Wilson, while the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports that the Marlins have no interest in Wilson, the Cubs and Nationals still do. The paper also says that Marlins RF Juan Encarnacion could be moved, with Atlanta and Washington both expressing interest.

    - According to the St. Paul Pioneer Press, the Twins are prepared to deal RHP Kyle Lohse for some much needed hitting. Padres third baseman Sean Burroughs was mentioned as a possible player. Staying with Burroughs, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports that the Cubs are looking into him as well.

    - Newsday, figuring the Mets aren't going to contend this year, suggests the team deal veterans Mike Piazza, Tom Glavine, Mike Cameron, Braden Looper, Kazuhisa Ishii and Doug Mientkiewicz.

    - The Bucks County Courier Times is urging the Phillies to make a move for A's LHP Barry Zito, offering any number of RHP Vicente Padilla, 1B Ryan Howard, RHP Gavin Floyd or CF Michael Bourn.

    - Rockies GM Dan O'Dowd tells the Baltimore Sun that slumping 1B Todd Helton is not going to be traded.

    - The South Florida Sun-Sentinel says the Marlins are offering prospects to the Rockies in exchange for lefthanded closer Brian Fuentes in an effort to shore up the Florida bullpen.

    - Red Sox OF Jay Payton is looking for a trade so that he can play more regularly, according to the Boston Herald.

Jay Payton isn't playing because he's not good. Not a ton of huge name look like they will be traded but you never know at the trade deadline.

        Re: Trade Rumors Thread

Things have actually been pretty quiet here in Boston. A few things i've heard:

        - Payton quietly asked for a trade, but with Damon and Nixon having nagging injuries the consensus is they can't afford to let him go unless Gabe Kapler returns from Japan.
        - They inquired about Jason Schmidt but have no real interest with Schilling coming back around the all-star break.
        - They expressed interest in Kotsay, but only because the Yankees did. They'll never give up what Oakland wants in return.
        - They could use some bullpen help but it looks like Embree is starting to turn the corner, which would eliminate a major need. Also, if Schilling comes back healthy it would move Arroyo to the bullpen, taking some pressure off Timlin.

I've heard that the Orioles are interested in getting Kip Wells from the Pirates. And that a few teams are looking at Jose Mesa.

Peyton isn't playing because the Red Sox outfield is pretty damn stocked, not because "he's not good".

Expect the Dodgers to get in on Jose Mesa, the Dodgers bullpen has been awful in the late innings since Gagne went down.

The Red Sox, Orioles and Dodgers could all be interested in Reds 1B Sean Casey.

The Dodgers have reported interest in starters Joe Kennedy, Barry Zito and Kevin Millwood.

The San Diego Padres have talked to the Nationals about 3B Vinny Castilla

Yah, he's actually done pretty well when he's had a shot to play. He's hitting .367 in June and 7 of his 13 hits have been for extra bases.

I've also heard the Twins could trade for Joe Randa as well as Burroughs. I'd rather have Randa but Burroughs would probably cost us Lohse and a low to mid level prospect, while Cincinnati wouldn't even take Lohse off of our hands.

Err, didn't Jose Mesa say he would retire if sent to a west coast team? I think he only wanted to get traded to an east coast team willing to pick up his option. I also thought out of all the west coast teams, the Diamondbacks had the most interest in Mesa, I may be wrong.

There have been talks about Barry Zito possibly coming over in a trade here in San Diego. Also, as everyone probably knows now, Burroughs is the one on the market...

He said he wanted to go to an East Coast team who would pick up his contract. But I bet if some west coast team worked out a trade for him and picked up his contract option he would report. I think the option being picked up in probably the most important thing to him.

I hope to God that the Braves can pick up some bullpen help, some OF help, and maybe a starting pitcher. Two out of 3 and I'll be happy.

It's unlikely the Braves will go after starting pitching, Mike Hampton will be back soon, John Thomson should be back in august and Jorge Sosa has done a decent job filling in (not counting thursday's game).

The bat and the bullpen on the other hand will need to be addressed. Jim Brower has been a decent pickup for the Braves and Chris Reitsma has done well as the Closer, i would expect to see the Braves inquire about Bob Wickman and Danys Baez as both could close or setup. Finding a bat may be harder for the Braves. Austin Kearns is an intriguing possibility if the Braves are willing to give up 2 or 3 decent prospects for him. The Braves were interested in Clevelands Jody Gerut last winter, i'm not sure if they still hold interest. i half expect the Braves to try and solve their Outfield problem by bringing up Jeff Francoeur in the second half, Francoeur is hitting .262 with 10 HRs and 53 RBI's at AA Mississippi.
