He's definitely had a bad year, no doubt about that. With Ryan Howard tearing it up in Triple-A, I don't see why the Phils should keep Thome around.. trade him while he's actually worth something.

Not surprising considering the way Howard has been hitting. I don't see many teams being interested in taking on that kind of money for questionable production due to his health. If the Phillies are going to get rid of him I think they'll need to take a bad contract in return or give something else along with him.

I wouldn't mind seeing the Sox go after him. Granted I don't know what we would give up...but he could be a good fit...strong lefty to play first instead of Millar would be a good fit if he's healthy

We have Olerud, Millar, and even Ortiz can play first. If Millar gets traded, Olerud will start. We have no need for a huge salary like that, especially at first. It is relaly a stupid thing. We need RP, go for that.

I'd avoid Thome like the plague...and so will Theo.

I remember when the Braves wanted him a few years back.

Olerud isn't an every day firstbaseman anymore...I thought you were the one saying that in the Sox forum(I'm probably wrong but i know someone else was saying Olerud couldn't handle 1B everyday, and I know you frequent there a lot) and I mean, big salaries aren't really that much of a problem to the Sox. If he proves he can be healthy and if it wouldn't take a kings ransom to get him(basically if it wouldn't take any of our top 5 prospects) I don't see why we wouldn't do this.

Thome is also a pretty good hitter in Fenway so I don't think the idea is that far out there. His health and salary are the big concerns. Philly would have to give us money or pay a big chunk of his salary in order for us to take him.

My question is, at what point does Petagine get a shot? He's hitting .327/.443/.653 in Pawtucket. What does the man need to do to make the majors?

Well, I didnt say it, believe me on that one. I am a top '*****' of Mllar and would love to see some slick glovework over at 1B every day, and it isnt too shabby a left-handed bat for his age. We can take that sacrifice in this lineup. Of course I wouldnt mind having Thome in the lineup, but with other pressing needs, I see no reason to get him. If you want a huge lefty bat that plays suspcious defense at first, go with Ortiz

3 years at 48 million. Unless the Phillies are going to pay a huge amount of that Salary, Thome-Time is going to sticking in Philadelphia.

I think Boston would make alot of sense, I just hate taking on that huge salary though. It makes me feel.....yankee-ish

It would probably be one of the only ways we could get a reliever of Wagner's calibre without moving half of our farm system.

                              sorry to double post

But....NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! I'd much rather see Thome out playing suspect defense then big papi. We can't afford Ortiz getting injured, while we've already got a top offense without Thome, he would just be a bonus.
