Doesn't he get the feeling the Padres don't want him anymore? This is the second time they have tried to trade him now.

Seriously... isn't he personally insulted by now that they keep trying to get rid of him? He should just go to Baltimore and join an already stakced lineup and enjoy the increased stats he will get and help them get back in contention for the wild card or divison.

Yeah but if the reason is because of his family, then I bet he's willing to stay there for a year (maybe throw soem games) and then seek a trade in the offseason. I think he's a free agent next year...

Clearly Nevin is past his prime and at 34 years old and I think that he will be traded to the AL and end up primarily as a DH.

Haven't you guys realized he doesn't exactly care if SD wants him or not? In this time of his career, it's all about what's best for his family.
                      I do because I can, I can because I want, I want because you say I can't

You'd want to stay in SD too if you're family lived there and you were building a home there. Having said that, it is clear they don't want you. Why don't they just trade him Anaheim and maybe he can play 1st. Not sure how Erstad's been doing there.

Well, they Halos dont need a 1st baseman as Erstad is doing just fine. The only position I see him playing is DH which is our biggest weakness. And if the Halos were to trade for Nevin which I doubt, the Padres would probably look to recieve some good prospects in return, which Bill Stoneman, the GM, isnt too fond of.

Finally, the Halos arent really the team to make big move around the trade deadline. The most I see them getting is Rondell White, maybe Mike Sweeney as DH. But there have been rumors about Jason Schmidt and possibly adding Billy Wagner as a lefty in the bullpen. I would gladly take any of those last two, but as I stated above, I doubt the Angels making a move for a marquee player.

Re: nevin trade a no go

Jason Schmidt will not be traded

Mike Sweeney most likely will not be traded

And unless the Angels are willing to part with C Jeff Mathis they will not get Billy Wagner

With the Orioles more-or-less out of the A.J. Burnett deal their plan B was Jeff Weaver of the Dodgers, the perfect scenerio would have been to send Ponson to the Padres for Nevin and then spin Nevin to the Dodgers for Weaver and Hee Seop Choi, this way everyone gets what they want: the Orioles get a starter and a bat (sort of), the Padres get a starting pitcher and the Dodgers get the power hitter they need. The Padres can still trade Nevin they just need to stop trying to trade him to the 6 teams he can block a trade to.
