Yea they were reporting it all day on Chicago sports Radio. Personally i don't like that trade. I don't know where the sox are going to put him. We are pretty full in the outfield. And on there it said the sox are about to acquire Burroughs for Borchard. Now that is a bust for a bust trade there. And what was the point of getting blum I thought he was insurance for crede. Whatever Kenny?

Even if he does clear waivers, there's no way the prospects the Reds are going to trade for will clear waivers.

If the prospects the White Sox offered aren't on their 40-man roster, I don't think they'd have to pass through waivers to be traded.

whose deal for Ken Griffey Jr. (for three minor league prospects)
ARE YOU SERIOUS?!?! Are the reds that fricking stupid to not get a MLB player in exchange? I'm sorry for getting mad but this is absolutely ridiculous, I thought trading the Jose Guillen with like a .330 avg and 25 HR's (before the ASB) and getting a few minor leaguers in exchange was stupid enough but now we are even thinking of trading a future-hof player for 3 prospects? (might I add he has been doing better this year) Are they that braindead or that ignorant to not try and get a player or two in exchange to fill holes. (A.K.A. PITCHING!)

              Damn it.

No kidding. What were the Phillies smoking if they actually though the Marlins would accept that offer?

The prospects don't have to clear waivers...just trade Griffey for a random player they feel is expendable who did clear waivers and three players to be named later. After the season...the minor leaguers are moved to the Reds. It's possible, I think, unless there is some rule prohibiting players to be named later in waiver-wire deals.

Yes if they were PTBNL then I think it would work. Not real sure though as I'm not as familiar with the PTBNL clauses.

However, why would anyone trade Griffey and accept a deal with 2-3 PTBNL's?

If Griffey or Burnett could be dealt, I have 3 words:

                          Paging Jim Beattie....

In order to get out from under his salary?

How would this work in Griffey's case? He has a very complex contract and is owed $57.5 mil in deferred money from 2009-2024. Who would be on the hook for the deferred money if he was traded?

Well, they could agree that the PTBNL are the White Sox's good prospects, and just do it that way so that the ChiSox could get Griffey. Since the prospects wouldn't be in the majors yet, it wouldn't make a difference to Cincy if the prospects are in their minors or the the Sox's minors, unless they are injured or something.
