That's weak. They shouldn't have done that.

Eh, no surprise. The team is playing like crap. Hell, they were thinking about firing him after last season. I say bring in Ripken or Murray!!

Also, forgot to mention that I don't know how the hell Beattie and Flanagan kept their jobs after failing miserably with the trade deadline. A team desperatley in need of a top starting pitcher, and all we could get is Eric Byrnes?? Although, I love Byrnes and think he's a good player, how is that the only deal they could make??

It's so sad that management thinks that getting rid of the manager would solve their problems. It's their fault for not getting the right players on the field. The manager isn't playing the game.

I just don't understand the logic of firing the manager. They've put together a very good core of players and are probably 1 year of experience and 1 starting pitcher away from an AL East title.

Next year, with a healthy Javy Lopez, Eric Bedard and the addition of an AJ Burnett and this team would be every bit as good as the Red Sox or Yankees, if not better. They've put together a very good team, why start removing parts in the middle of it?

That's awful, hopefully he'll come back and be a coach for the Yanks.

Who the hell gives up on a manager this fast, is baseball turning into the NBA or something? The guy had the O's in first place like a month and a half ago. This won't solve a damn thing for them.

I don't get it. Every team goes through some sort of slump, and a surge as well. This isn't the managers fault at all for his players not hitting, pitching or fielding well. Things can only get worse when you fire the manager.

Well, first you have to understand that Peter Angelos is an idiot...

Once you understand that, that's all you really need to know about the Baltimore Orioles, and the direction of their franchise...

Yep. The entire baseball world knew that the O's needed 1 or 2 good starting pitchers. Never happened and Mazzilli can't be blamed for that.

Not to mention that he's not the guy who brought back Sidney Ponson or signed Sammy "We all know he's going to suck now that he's off steroids" Sosa.

Everything is going downhill for the orioles now. They needed to make some trades but nothing took place. The firing of mazzilli isnt going to help this team.

I think its a good thing the O's fired Mazzilli.

Would you want to be the manager that had Sammy Sosa and Rafael Palmeiro on your team? Especially after Palmeiro's little lie that was revealed. This is a blessing for him, and someone like the Cubs, hopefully they'll fire Bust Baker, will hire him. But I doubt that....

Unless Leo Mazzone was on his staff... there as no way Mazzilli could turn that pitching staff into a successful one.

The first half for the O's was an aberation and everyone knew they needed pitching. Mazzilli shouldn't have been fired as I think he was just starting to come into his own as a manager. I'm sure he'll be given another chance at the managerial role someday.

As for a replacement I sure as hell hope that Ripken or Murray don't taint their reputations by taking on a team that is still in rebuilding despite the fast start they had this year.
