Have rookies ever made more of an impact than this year?

In recent history... it seems as if the rookies around the MLb have made a much higher impact than any rookie class in a long time. Take a look at these names and these guys have been huge parts of their teams success.

(some of these guys played last year but still have retained their rookie eligibility)

    AL East:

    SP Chien-Mieng Wang
    2B Robinson Cano
    SP Gustavo Chacin
    3B Aaron Hill
    OF Johnny Gomes
    SP Scott Kazmir

    AL Central:

    2B Tad Iguchi
    RP Jesse Crain

    AL West:

    1B Dan Johnson
    SP Joe Blanton
    SP Ervin Santana
    RP Huston Street
    SP Chris Young

    NL East:

    OF Jeff Francouer
    3B Wilson Betemit
    OF Ryan Church
    SP Kyle Davies
    RP Gary Majewski

    NL Central:

    OF Willy Taveras
    SP Zach Duke

    NL West:

    SS Clint Barmes
    SP Jeff Francis
    SP Brad Halsey
    RP Yhency Brazoban

Plus I'm sure I left some guys out. This just has to be the most talented class of rookies in a while.

I havn't looked over the numbers but none of those names really strike me as anyone who's making a huge impact.

    1997's class was pretty good:

Mike Piazza hit 36 homers and around 113 RBI as a 23 year old rookie for the Dudgers. I believe he batted .313 also.

But Ozzie Guillen is his manager! And Scott Podsednik is fast!

Huston Street has made a pretty big impact though, and should be a front runner for the ROY award.

Yah I think he's definitely a front runner, especially with the way Oakland is playing. I didn't even realize he was doing so well.

There have been years (such as Jeter in 96 and Noma in 97) where one player was just unbelivable. What I meant was just the overall talent... and not just one player dominting.... is a lot better than what we've seen in recent years.

1987 was a good year for rookies. McGwire had 49 that year plus Kevin Seitzer had over 200 hits as a rookie for the Royals. I think there were a couple of more guys but I cant think of them.

Jeff Francoeur has been unbelievable since he came up:

.403 avg, 8 hr, 21 rbi in 22 games. He hasn't even walked yet, and his OPS is still like 1.200...

The Braves definitely reaped the benfits from calling up all their rookies... they are sensational. They used something like 12 (or 13?) rookies this year and they are holding top spot in the NL East.

Impressive pitcher so far. It'll be interesting to see how he fares the rest of the year.

I agree. I watched a Marlins game on ESPN when he was pitching and I was quite impressed. This guy is a future #1 starter IMO.

Have you two Red Sox fans even watched the White Sox this year outside of the 4 games we played you?

It is amazing how great Iguchi has been as a number 2 hitter. He gives himself up constantly for the team to move Podsednik over or he takes great pitches so Pods can steal a bag.

Numbers don't tell you everything that a player is doing. I would expect Red Sox fans to know that.
