Cashman will not be the GM of the Phillies.

    Want to know why?

Because the Phillies' owners are comfortable with the brainless dork they have under their total control right now.

The owners want nobody that might "rock the boat" that is their happy little franchise. They want lemmings from the president down to the manager.

Why you think Jimmy Leyland never got the manager job? He scared the living piss out of Montgomery, Wade and the owners. He is a strong figure that was willing to do whatever it takes to win and would blast management in order to do it.

So yes, while Wade is the longest tenured GM in baseball that has never lead his team to the playoffs...that doesn't upset the owners. They love him. He's their pet.

What you said is true to an extent but I wonder how Phillie fans will react if they make the playoffs. Will they still have disdain for Ed Wade? I'm just curious to know.

The disdain will continue because Phillies fans think this team should've been in the playoffs a long time ago. This would be the first time since '93 that this team would be in the postseason. Getting there once during his tenure doesn't satisfy a thing.

They will feel like he lucked out into a playoff spot with Thome going down and Ryan Howard taking over...and Chase Utley, whom should've been up to the big team like 2 years ago, wasn't traded because of Wade's timidness to trade any prospects. Now the guy is going to be the best 2nd baseman in the National League, if not all of baseball.

And knowing Wade's track record..he won't do anything else to improve the team. He'll just let it ride out and say "Wait until everyone gets healthy...".

Thanks for the reply, much appreciated. I haven't seen Howard play but to me Orlando Hudson is the best 2B in baseball (at least from a defensive standpoint)

Yeah, Utley isn't a defensive guru by any means, but his stats are right there with Abreu and Burrell's numbers and that is with almost 100 less at-bats. That's amazing. Imagine if he was the starter from the beginning of the season.
