I actually would not be surprised to see Jim Leyland back in Pittsburgh as i think maybe Leyland has looked at what Jack McKeon has done with the Marlins and he believes he can do the same for the Pirates. Under the right manager this team may not be as bad as we think.
Next season the Pirates will likely open the season with a starting rotation of:

      Oliver Perez
      Zach Duke
      Sean Burnett
      John Van Benschoten
Paul Maholm/Dave Williams/free agent or trade pickup

Kip Wells and Josh Fogg will probably be traded and the bullpen could use some working over and then there is the lineup; Jason Bay is by far the star of this team but may get some help with Ryan Doumit catching on a regular basis, Chris Duffy played very well in CF before being injured, Brad Eldred could put up some monster numbers playing every day at 1B (half of Eldred's hits this season are for extra bases) and we already know what Jack Wilson, Jose Castillo and Rob Mackowiak can do. Give this team a manager with some expierience at winning and this may just surprise some people.

Despite his lack of success, I always LOVED Lloyd. Whenever I saw him, I always picture him stealing first base and walking off the field. That piece of footage has me laughing every single time. My favorite manager blow up, ever.

Looks like Macha doesn't want to talk about the position right now, but Art Howe is interested.

I'm a little hesitant on Howe. I saw him for two years while he was in NY, and there were times when he would pull some "Lloydesque" with the Mets. Towards the end of his last season he lost control of the clubhouse, and the team just gave up. He just didn't look like a good manager. He also got absolutly butchered by the NY media. Of course that wouldn't be such a problem in Pitt, but it's still left me with some bad impressions of him.

The Pirates do need a manager with big-league experience, and Howe might end up being a good choice, but the memories of Howe in NY are not good ones.

I Agree wit the Howe things, I remember the game where Glavine was just smoking us and he took him out in the 6th or somewhere around there even though he was showing no signs of fatigue..We came back to win that game, but I don't want a guy like that managing our squad.I also agree with the lack of fundamentals by Lloyd group..We were terrible with fundamentals.I don't have a preference just a guy wit experience who could help our young guys develop and instill confidence in our squad

Watch Torre end up there. Somehow the Yanks barely miss the playoffs, George goes on a firing spree and cleans house.

However, I hope none of this is true but just a thought that crossed my mind.

I don't see it. If Torre is fired by the Yankees then i think the Orioles will be the first in line to hire him, i could also see the Cubs if Dusty Baker leaves for Arizona (Gammons rumor) or the Dodgers if Jim Tracy gets canned.
