Chicago fans, I really want to know.
I mean, I grew up watching his father, Jose Uribe (Giants) in the 80's. Of course I rooted agianst them, but there was no denying that Jose Uribe was slick and smooth at the SS position, and was a relatively low-key, quiet kinda guy.
Some 18 years later I now see his son, who I admit I haven't watched play much because - "HELLO" - I am in Cali and the Dub Sox are in Illinois. But What I've seen of him during this playoff series is nothing short of downright hilarious, non-stop entewrtainment - and I LOVE it.
I mean, this guy comes off like such a character. Here are some of his moves:
Bending his back over backwards and leaning his head back "howl at the moon style" when taking a strike;
Making the most absurd faces after the ump calls strikes;
Snapping his head back at the ump after the pitch when it is tight in the count;
Flailing his arms about violently to call for a catch w/ no one near him (like last night);
Throwing the ball so hard on routine ground balls that it looks like his arm is about to go flying off towards first base with the ball;
Making hilarious faces every time he is about to throw to first.
That's just what I can think of right now. But tell me, am I exaggerating? I really want to know. Juan Uribe seems like he plays with so much fierceness and intensity, but it just comes off almost comical to me. And I knwo the umps get pissed at him b/c you cannot jerk and twist your body around liek that after called strikes and expect to get any breaks.
I think one reason why he bobbled that ball in the 14th is b/c he is wrapped up so tight.
Even saying all this, it really makes the Sox fun(ny) to watch, just for Uribe's at-bats and throws. If you haven't noticed this, then please just watch him tonight and come back here and tell me I'm wrong.
Ragin' Juan!!
