Even if we do win the World Series the Cubbies will still be the lovable Chicago team. BUT we will be recognized as a 'Chicago' team instead of just the team on the 'southside'.

This is what I was trying to say. I dont want everybody to root for us. But I would like the City of Chicago to either root for us OR to not root against us.

I went to a bar last night after the game. And majority of the crowd was booing as I came in wearing my White Sox hoody. Like I said in another post, its hard for you guys to understand unless you live in the City of Chicago.

As for Dusty Baker, I really dont care about his statement. I just hate the guy, and wish he would leave the City of Chicago. He can root for the Astros if he wants, but as long as he doesnt manage here again, I'll be happy. But anytime I hear his name, whether its about the Cubs, Sox, Giants, I'll be against him. And I'll say whatever negative thing comes to my head.

The one thing stopping me from rooting for the Cubs is simply Dusty. It was Sammy at first, but after he left, it came down to Dusty.

But this isnt a plea for everybody to root for the White Sox. You guys root for whoever, but I hate seeing the City of Chicago root for the other team (especially if the other team is the team that took the wild card spot from the Cubs)

I'd feel the same way if people rooted against the Bears, Bulls, or Blackhawks. If your a TRUE Chicagoan, you'd root for the team that wears the proud city of CHICAGO on their jersey.

Does that validate my post? Or should I explain more? I dont want this to become a witch hunt.

And I'm a Cubs fan rooting for the Sox simply because based on the pattern, I think the Cubs will win it next year. Red Sox, White Sox, Cubs. 3 longest droughts ended in order. Sounds pretty sweet to me!
      It should have been:

      2003 - CUBS
      2004 - RED SOX
      2005 - WHITE SOX

As a Cub fan I probably won't see them win the WS in my lifetime.

I'm just trying to be one of the few optimistic Cubs fans around. And give myself a reason to keep watching baseball.

Adding to that point, why aren't you in a bar (or if you aren't old enough, at some sort of party) or even at the game? You're a huge Sox fan, yet you are posting on a message board while they are about to clinch.
I'm not at a bar because we don't drink as much beer as the Cubs fans.
I'm not at the game because it's in Houston and I'm in Chicago and I have to work tomorrow. As the great former Cubs manager Lee Elia stated, "80% of the world is working. The other part is at the Cubs game." And that's the same reason I'm not at a party.

You don't have to go to the bar to drink, its about being with other fans and celebrating together. One of the most fun aspects of a championship (knowing from the Bulls and the Fighting Illini of last year) is the coming together of people over a simple thing as sports. You will become friends with the entire city of Chicago for one night if they win tonight, and you are more concerned with work and OS. Sorry man, I have responsibilities too, but a sick day would be in order for me and I would surely be celebrating with many others at a great time like this if I were a White Sox fan.

Thats totally what I did bro. Sox win and school is cancelled tomorrow. I don't care if it is or not. We have a nice even split of 6 guys in my house b/t Cubs, Sox ,and Cards, but everyone was rooting for the Sox and a victory tonight. then we went out and celebrated at the bars tonight. Unreal, city of Chi finally gets a title and evryone was supporting it around here. It was awesome.

Actually its more of a rivalry for the White Sox and their fans than it is for the Cubs. A lot of Cubs fans dont like that they have to play the White Sox home and away because our true rival, the Cardinals, gets to play KC home and away. This gives an advantage to the Cardinals the vast majority of the time due to KCs market size and their payroll.

This is what pisses me off about Cub Fans. When you guys were in the playoffs a couple years ago, I cheered for you guys. Not because I liked the Cubs, but because I cared about the City of Chicago and wanted them or someone to bring home a World Series ring. Now that we're in the same situation as you guys (the Cubs), you guys can't even root for us? And at the same time, root AGAINST us??? How can Cub Fans be so bitter? White Sox or Cubs, they are both from CHICAGO. If you are a true Chicagoan, you would root for them to succeed.

I can see a total different atmosphere if it was a Cubs/White Sox series, but its not. Please stop the bitterness and be glad that our 90 year curse is almost gone!!

The best part is that Ozzie is really ticked off at Dusty, because they are friends and Ozzie took it to heart when Dusty said he wasnt rooting for anybody.

Hey DUSTY, maybe you should stop chewing on those toothpicks and actually do something productive with your team. Yeah I bet your glad its fishing season, because that might be the only sport your worthy of being good at. Dusty, get the hell out of Chicago, because speaking from a fan of ALL CHICAGO TEAMS .... I DESPISE YOU!
Anyways enough of this rant, I cant believe some bubblehead such as Dusty, can get me so mad at such a time like this. I'm so excited for tonight!!!
Nobody asked you to cheer for the cubs and I doubt that anyone really cares if you're mad cause they won't cheer for the white sox.

Shows where your priorities are at. Just to let you know I have a family and I have to work to keep food on the table. Now will taking off one day will hurt me? Absolutley not. Matter of fact, I was called into the office to start taking days off before the end of the year because I got like 2 weeks left of sick/vacation days.

But that's not what I'm trying to say. I have a lot of Sox Pride but I also have Pride in taking care of my family and taking pride in my job. I'm normally the type of person who hardly misses days off work. Now, I do hate my job BUT I still take pride in what I do.

I'll have plenty of time this weekend to celebrate and next week because of the fact that I have to start taking days off I took some days off next week and the week after.

Of course Cubs fans wouldn't understand because their the lovable team plays most of their games during the time when people are at work.

Why do Sox fans always have to end their argument with an attack on Cubs fans? You guys just won the freakin Series, and you still gotta find a cheap way to make Cubs fans look dumb. If I were you, I would just say **** the Cubs fans and enjoy it. [sarcasm]Because yeah, we seriously are a bunch of losers who don't have to work or anything you do.[sarcasm/] I totally know where you are coming from in terms of taking pride in being at work day in and day out. I haven't missed a day of work in my life. Granted I'm only talking summer jobs since I'm in college, but it's the same idea. I would say that if you are that type who misses work very rarely, all the more reason to take a day off to celebrate this once in a lifetime event.

But if it came down to the team I have loved my whole life winning it's first championship in 98 years (if they win next year) then I will be making sure I enjoy it that night, because that is something a lot of people did not get to see in their ENTIRE LIFETIME. I think you have bad priorities if you wouldn't do the same, and I don't think you are a die hard Sox fan, which is fine, just don't go parading as though you are.

Just enjoy it man, that's all I'm trying to say. Congrats again.
