Once again. No love for the White Sox.

    http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/s...rank2006_early

I kinda figured that going into next year we would be predicted to finish at least second this time. Unlike last year we were predicted to finish third. So far, I stand corrected. Even though free agency hasn't even begun to move or shake the White Sox gets 'no-props' from the National Media. Especially, the E-astern S-eaboard P-rogaming N-etwork. Even after winning the Whole Thing we cannot even get predicted to finish first in our own division. Oh well.

What motivated the White Sox last year was the fact that we weren't predicted to finish no higher than 3rd in our division. If the national media wants the White Sox to fall why don't they just predict us to repeat again?

Call me a whinny White Sox fan, I really don't care. But most people last year predicted Boston to repeat even though they lost 2 of their top 3 starters in Martinez and Lowe. Now we might possibly loose Konerko and Jay Mariotti in his column this morning already is predicting the downfall of the White Sox next year.

Jay Marriotti is a tool. He flips flops so damn much he's lost all credibility with me and this goes back to the Bulls dynasty. I wish I could find his column from last year when the Bulls were 0-9 to start the season. He easily dismissed any chance of playoff hopes. Come April, he was right back on the bandwagon like he never said any of those things. I cant stand him whenever he's on Around the Horn and I wish he went to a diffrent city.

Anyway, another thing that has been bugging me about the Sox. Is Ozzie the most popular person in the whole WhiteSox organization? This mans face is everywhere like he hit 67 homers this year. This is before he won the Manager of the Year yesterday. It seems that when it comes to the White Sox, Ozzie is the only one that the media wants to talk to. I give Ozzie credit but he did'nt swing any damn bats or field any balls. Why whenever ppl think White Sox, they think Ozzie? I can already see next year, he'll get all the endorsments and media coverage. I know he's a character but damn, are the players that unknown?

I wouldn't call being ranked #2 equating to "No Love", but I do get your point. Hell, the Steelers went 16-2 last year and weren't even predicted to win their division by most publications this year. Such is life. Doesn't bother me any.

This isn't the first time I've seen the Indians ranked high or mentioned as a very legit team to make the World Series next year.

Any rankings at this point are meaningless. The majority of transactions that will occur around the league haven't occured yet.

To me its just because hes the most marketbale person in the organization. The majority of the teams in this league have a player that they can market and idenitfy themselves with (Yanks with Jeter, Sox with Manny/Ortiz, Angels with Vlad, Mets with Pedro, etc.) and the White Sox just dont have that yet.

The media loves loud people who give good quotes like Ozzie does so its only natural theyd make him the face of the team.

If I'm the White Sox, I tell my P.R. department this offseason to get Konerko or Buehrle on talk shows, ESPN, commercials, interviews, etc to get the general public to identify more with the players.

Actually, I had stated a while ago that the most popular/marketable person on the White Sox is not a player but the manager Ozzie Gullien.

Ozzie is the leader of this team, which is a very good thing. Yes, you do have on-the-field leaders. Paul Konerko and Mark Buerhle I would consider as the on-the-field leaders for this team. BUT what's good about this situation is the on-the-field leaders don't supersede Ozzie. I think that's been Dusty Baker's problem in Chicago and San Fransico. Dusty is as baseball knowledgable as Ozzie but his problem is taking control of his players on the field. Of course, Dusty had to deal with the two biggest ego-driven players in the history of the game with Barry Bonds and Sammy Sosa. Even though Sosa didn't play for the Cubs this year it still had a rippling effect to a point where players just didn't respect him because he didn't handle the Sosa situation correctly. If Dusty was the true leader of the Cubs they would have won the championship by now.

At least you realize you're a whiner. Seriously man, how can you complain about being ranked #2 when we have absolutely no idea what any of these teams will look like?

But back on topic, the White Sox are going to find out how difficult repeating is this year. Anybody who picked the Red Sox to win it all again was a moron. The off the field distractions after a championship are too much for most teams to overcome, which is what makes what the Yankees did from 98-00 even more impressive.

Wow, I'm agreeing with a Red Sox fan on this one. Um, MagicBucsWsoxFan, please tell me the last time someone picked the Indians to be the best team? Hell, as an Indians fan, I've been hearing critics saying the White Sox were the best team in the Central for the past 4 years or so (and you guys finally decided to prove them right). We have been a sleeper pick the past 2 years, but we haven't received "this hype". And honestly, why the hell is anyone putting any stock in a preseason poll that comes out in November? Hell, you know the other big teams are going to sign some big FA's and that'll change everything

eh, I didn't see anything in the article that was untrue, just a man's opinion. But a White Sox fan complaing about lack of respect.... now that's a shocker.

When you think about it, the Indians are really the only sensible pick. They were a 93 win team that is returning almost everyone.

During those years... we didn't have guys who would help keep alive any off-field distractions.

                          Unlike today.

You know why some people hate White Sox fans? it's cuz you guys whine too much. The Indians at #1 is a pretty damn good pick but like it says the key for the Tribe is if they re-sign Millwood. Either way it's not like the Chi-Sox are ranked 10 or something like that.
