I'd love him on Atlanta. Mazzone will work wonders with him...
**looks up at what I said, cries**
But seriously......I'd still love him behind Smoltz and Hudson.Comment

The Cubs need a reliable starter in the rotation just in case Kerry gets hurt(which he prolly will) I'd be happy to see him in Cubby blue.Originally posted by billmaticRadman is more like the ******** homeless man's version of Okur.Comment

If the O's can't get one of Burnett/Millwood/Byrd, I'd pursue Vazquez, or maybe use him to start a 3 way deal with the Marlins to get Delgado.Comment

He would definatly be welcomed in Atlanta. He is still a good pitcher and had a decent year. I would love to see Schuerolz(sp?) go after him.Comment

So when did Chicago move and what was I doing at the time?“Nobody in the history of the game tried what I just tried. We’re talking about on the biggest stage, in New York, playing out of position and asked to hit fourth for the New York Yankees. I mean, that’s never been done.” - Sheffield on SheffieldComment

He had a year that showed signs of him losing his stuff. A strikeout pitcher does not a good pitcher make! He can strike out as many as 10 guys a game, averages something like 7, but when you give up 4 and 5 runs a game, WHO CARES?! He's a step above Ortiz on that DBacks team and a step BELOW Brandon Webb. If he could go somewhere with an extraodrinary pitching coach, he might have a chance to show his brilliance just yet. However, being that the chances of that are slim to none, I've pretty much given up hope with Vasquez.
Looking at his game logs for 2005 you'll see one thing: 6's, 7's, 8's, and even 9's sprinkled in the EARNED RUNS ALLOWED category. Followed of course by 5's, 4's, 3's, 2's, and the elusive 1 which happened a mediocre 4 times last year.
Don't get me wrong, I used to love this guy. Now? This guy needs some serious help. He couldn't even BEGIN to cut the mustard in the East before, so what makes him think he can now? Wherever he goes he's going to need at least 4 things to be sucessful:
1. A Good Pitching Coach
2. Decent Run Support
3. Team with low popularity
4. A lot of very good luckComment

Re: Vazquez wants back East
I would not be surprised if Vazquez winds up in Florida, and not necessarily as a Marlin. With a new owner in Tampa Bay the Devil Rays are expeted to increase payroll and could make an offer for Vazquez (though i wouldn't rule out the Marlins).Comment

I know I'm critical of the guy, but that doesn't mean I don't like him. I'm just afraid of what might happen to him if he moves back east. However, now that I've thought it through, having a guy like Vasquez at the BACK of a rotation would solve alot of his problems, and alot of teams in the east could and would use him in that position.
The D-Rays definitely have a bright future ahead of them with one of the best defensive outfields for like three years now, and their young pitchers finally coming around. Kinda sucks that it took a move to Atlanta for Jorge Sosa to show his true potential. I'm not a D-Rays fan, I'm not a bandwagoner, but I'm sure as hell glad to see at least a small sign of a changing of the guard in the AL East.Last edited by Stoud; 11-12-2005, 01:53 AM.Comment

That doesnt make any sense.... how would their win/loss record be affected by what position in the rotation he's in? Its not like they'd win 35 less games if Vazquez pitches the second game of the year and then every five days after that rather than had he pitched the fourth game of the year and then every five games after that.
