What about the stats that I posted though? I've never understood the counter-argument to that; maybe you can help me out there.
I'm sure you have watched plenty of Phillies games like I have. Haven't you noticed when the game is on the line in the later innings and he has runners on base, that he will either strike out or hit right into the infield to get thrown out. I can't count how many times I've witnessed that.

Surely, but there's also been plenty of times where he's come through in the later innings that everyone else forgets about. If there weren't, he wouldn't be hitting .300 in those situations.

And I never said he is a poor second half player. This year, he was. But when Bowa was here and the Phillies were in the hunt, Abreu would come up small in crucial series.

And his defense as well. Remember late last season, I think against the Mets...he frigged up in the outfield a couple times and cost them any chance at the playoffs.

Are there stats for runners in scoring position in "close and late" situations?

Yeah. He went 1 for 8 with an RBI single, 6 walks, and 4 strikeouts. Where are those "countless times"?

Yeah, because a select 4 strikeouts over 719 plate appearances really says a lot about his ability.

I'm sorry, but using 8 at-bats to determine supposed clutch ability doesn't seem legit to me.

Not that I'm one of those who believes clutch ability exists anyway...

So you would say Abreu has come up as clutch as Burrell has been over his career? Or as clutch as Utley and Howard last year?

Within a margin of error, yes.

                    2005 Close and Late
                    Abreu: .298/.422/.571
                    Utley: .313/.427/.613
                    Howard: .283/.411/.600

                    2005 Overall
                    Abreu: .286/.405/.474
                    Utley: .291/.376/.540
                    Howard: .288/.356/.540

                    So no, probably not.

Well suit yourself. I'd rather have someone that isn't afraid of being in a pressure situation, on both offense and defense.

So would I. Glad we can agree on that.

I'd like to see Abreu on the Mariners. Never gonna happen, but a guy can dream, can't he? Two lefties who can hit righties well?? It would be a dream come true. Especially since Ibanez could DH and play first if Richie got injured.

TRADE HIM TO THE MARINERS, BUDDIES!!

We could use annother 30 jacks a year, and that speed!

matter of fact, with Abreu and one of the many decent FA starters this offseason, the M's could quickly go from last place in the AL West to second or first!

We'll give you....uhhmm....TWO QUALITY STARTERS...the potential CY YOUNG WINNER Ryan Franklin, and the man with the awesome unbeatable curve...Gil Meche!! TWO AMAZING STARTERS FOR ONE OUTFIELDER!!

                          whaddaya say?

I'd say when did Dan Duquette take over the Phillies?
