50 Game ban for 1st time offenders/Lifetime ban for 3rd timers

Finally MLB has become strict with this new supposed agreement. Heard it on radio and found an article on ESPN.

About damn time. I think those "I didn't know what I was taking" excuses will disappear pretty fast.

This has been what Selig has been pushing for a while. Sounds like the Players Union actually gave in and accepted the stiffer penalty.

      I'm glad to see it.

Great news. Is this retroactive or in effect as of today? Or is there a future date where it's set to take effect?

Well, it's not going to get much better than this. Rules as strict as these should make players think twice about who they trust and what they use.

Its about damn time is all I can say. A 10-day suspension was a joke.

Totally agree, I'm very happy with this ruling.

Glad to see they put their foot down on this.

I wonder who will be the first one to get banned 50 games?

About time Selig steps up and does something.

                    Agreed

If the PA had kept stomewalling this then congress would've put a much more harsh standard. A standard that would've had Olympic level testing. See this is my one problem with this. They could test all they want and be as strict as they want but if MLB isn't going to put money on testing facilities and procedures then what's the point? Players will find other substances that won't be spotted in the tests they're given nowadays.

At least they've got harsher penalties now tho.

Should of been worse if you ask me.,

First offense, half a season 82 games

Second offense a full season including playoffs. I would almost go as far to say, if you got caught in Sept, then afull year from there.

                      Third offense, lifetime ban.

I like the punishment but whats a point of strict punishment if the testing isn't strict enough.

Testing got stricter as well. More substances were added and tests will be more frequent.

It about time stupid a** Bud Selig got his s*** together. I was getting really angry when Selig didn't have anything in place and congress was getting ready to step in. God forbid the day congress gets involved in baseball.
