    Re: Delgado to Mets...

I have to give credit to the Marlins. For 11 million dollars they got Delgado for one season and now have Jacobs and Petit.

Petit has ace potential. Jacobs was on fire after the call-up but there's no way he will keep that up over a full season. He's still a pretty solid player.

Great deal for the Mets too. Delgado is a proven slugger that will vastly improve the Mets. Usually I start to really worry when a player is 33 years old because you feel like a deep decline could happen any minute, but Delgado keeps himself in excellent shape. I see Delgado being really productive the next 2 seasons and the 3rd year being iffy.

If they can also sign Wagner, this team will be really dangerous next season. Looks like they're trying to give the Red Sox a serious run at having the 2nd biggest payroll to start next season.

If I'm the Reds, I would be tempted to deal Dunn right now. They could probably get a fortune for him considering his age, production, and salary.

And with Delgado going to the Mets, that means he makes his return to Toronto next June. I might have to fly over there for his first game in another uni at RC. He deserves a standing ovation and I have a feeling a lot of idiot fans are going to boo him.

      Welcome Marlins.

Interesting that Delgado would Ok the trade to the Mets after he refused to sign a deal with the Mets when Omar tried to play the race card at him for why he should sign with the Mets.

So is this an official trade?

The Marlins got the best of it. More cap room and two prospects.

he had no choice to ok it or not.. it was not like Manny where he has that clause where he can ok where he goes..

Good deal for both clubs if it goes through. I think Delgado chose Florida because he, like many baseball experts last year, thought the Marlins were ready to win another World Series. As a Mets fan, I really hope that is why

If he is forced to come here and is not happy, this may blow up in Omar's face. I am more concerned with Beltran though, he had a horrible season last year. Hopefully this was due to NY and his early injuries. Please don't bring up the fact that he now has "protection", Floyd had a monster year and he provided all the protection Carlos needed.

wow than it sucks to be the Mets, because they are going to have a player that didn't want to be there in the first place. So it's funny how fans still want him on the team.

I'm pretty sure Delgado chose Florida because his family was closer and he didn't want to deal with the NY media.

Still I'm sure he will be on his best behavior coming to NY and make no complaints because if he does the media will rip him even more.

Your one of the NY people, who I guess didn't hear why Delgado chose Florida. Well the biggest reason he choose Florida was because of the contract was the 2nd biggest he got offered and 2 they didn't play his race to try and get him to sign, like Omar did.

plus dont forget the "Leiter" incident - where they were saying he told Delgado not to come to NY cause of the media (never proven, but it sure was leaked out).. i remember going to a Marlin game earlier this year - the fans booed him loudly every time he came to bat, & he got stuck out on the field when they played "God Bless America".. I also heard on Mike & the Mad Dog (interviewing Buck Martinez) it was said he can force a trade (demand i guess) in the second year w/ the team.. plus Buck said he fears Ortiz more than Delgado (wonder if he woulda said the same thing if he went to the O's)..

I believe he would still say he fears Ortiz over Delgado even if he did end up with the O's..because right now Ortiz is a better hitter than Delgado is. If he was talking about the Old Delgado and still said he feared Ortiz over him, then I wouldn't by into it.

Actually a lot of Jays fans have this crazy notion that JP should've re-signed Delgado. So a lot of the blame for Carlos' departure is put on JP so I think it's safe to say that Delgado will get a huge ovation.

now the other point is.... what is Nady's role with the team? he won't be a platoon 1b now, & Diaz should be the RF.. wonder if they will now flip him again in another trade (rumor now is that the Mets are going after Soriano)..

Edit: but Diaz could be another "Huskey" type player, so ya never know..

I heard Buck on wfan as well. Fearing Ortiz more than 'gado? Of Course you do, but were the Mets in the market fo Big Papi...No. I don't know why Buck Martinez even felt the need to say that. It's a very irrelevant statement. I also went to a Met vs. Marlin game and the fans were not too forgiving that he decided to go to Fla/the whole God Bless America Protest. That being said, I'm not mad at him for either of his decisions and welcome him as the new met firstbaseman. Once he pulls a bomb into the Met bullpen, Met fans will be inviting the guy to family dinners.

There are some Met fans that do not like the move because of the prospects given up. I understand that we gave up Kazmir last year...but that was for Zambrano. We gave up two unproven prospects for a proven, perennial, All Star Slugger. I remember the Mets' "Big Three" consisting of Isringhausen, Wilson, and Pulsipher. They all did not live up to expectations. I liked Jacobs, but he is no Delgado. The Mets Offense, at times, looked terrible last year. Reyes, Beltran, Delgado, Wright, Floyd is one hell of a top 5.
